In a strange twist of fate, the two teams which are regular challengers for the last Champions League spot are mired in ninth and tenth and have been unable to take advantage of the poor form of the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool. Things are going well for both sides in the Europa League but not so much in the Premier League. All five of Spurs' previous five games in all competitions have been decided by one goal. Last weekend, Mauricio Pochettino's side managed to squeak past Hull City, 1-2. They lost against Stoke City by the same margin as well prior to playing Hull.

Everton's form is good now after a rocky start. They have picked up three wins in their last five Premier League matches, drawing the other two. Roberto Martinez must be happy with his side; however, he would surely like their lengthy injury list to shorten as soon as possible. John Stone, Antolin Alcaraz and Darron Gibson are out of action. Bryan Oviedo is in rehab currently, making his way back to full fitness. James McCarthy has a hamstring problem, rendering him doubtful for this match. Gareth Barry might make his return in this match. Leighton Baines, Steven Pienaar and Steven Naismith are all doubtful.

Tottenham have a few headaches of their own as well. Kyle Naughton will continue serving out his ban in this match and will not play a part as a result. Danny Rose, Nacer Chadli, Emmanuel Adebayor and Andros Townsend are all doubtful; their presence in this match is currently depending on last minute fitness tests. Younes Kaboul might not be back for this one either for personal reasons. Kyle Walker is close to a return to the side. Etienne Capoue is rated doubtful as well.
