The reigning MLS MVP is expected to miss 6 to 8 months after undergoing hip surgery.

The club confirmed the news on Tuesday after Magee underwent a hip surgery that will have him on the sidelines for an expected period of 6-8 months. After struggling throughout this season due to this injury a decision was finally made, as it was the best for the player towards the future.

Regarding this, Chicago Fire head coach Frank Yallop commented:

“It’s unfortunate that Mike will be out for an extended period, but he’s been struggling this season with the injuries.

“After consulting with our medical staff, we decided that this was the best time for Mike to have the procedure.”

The 30-year-old forward joined Chicago Fire in May 2013 from LA Galaxy and he managed to score a total of 15 goals in 22 appearances in his first season with the club. He eventually was named the 2013 MLS Most Valuable Player.

Currently in 9th place in the East, the Fire will definitely miss one of their key players in their ambitions for a late playoff push.
