About
TVR 1 history, coverage, features
TVR 1 is a Romanian television channel owned and operated by the Romanian Television Society, the Romanian public television system. TVR 1 became the first TV channel to see the light in this country on December 31, 1956, when it was launched under the name TVR, and would continue to be the only one until 1968. After a few rebrandings, the channel would be known as TVR 1 in 2004.
Over the years, TVR 1 has been known as a general interest channel, with news, entertainment shows, cultural programs, children’s programming, animated movies, religion, science, sports, and educational shows being aired on this channel. Most of the shows aired on this channel have been broadcast in Romanian language, although some international shows may be available in their native tongue.
Speaking about sports, TVR 1 has been known for covering tournaments that have featured Romanian national teams. Some of the disciplines covered on this channel over the years have included football and rugby. When it comes to football, TVR 1 has aired content related to the Romanian football team and has also covered different editions of the FIFA World Cup.
TVR 1 was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed saw the light on November 3, 2019. A downscaled version of the HD feed might be available for users who do not have access to HD technology. Added to its availability in Romania, TVR 1 may also be seen in countries such as Moldova, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Serbia, and Hungary.
