About
TeleCinco Espana history, coverage, features
TeleCinco is a free-to-air television channel owned and operated by Mediaset. It was founded on March 10, 1989 by Gestevisión Telecinco, and it would be officially launched on March 3, 1990. This channel has frequently been regarded as one of the most watched in Spain, which prompted Mediaset to purchase the channel and include some of its shows on TeleCinco.
TeleCinco can be considered as a general entertainment channel, with its programming being aimed at most Spanish citizens. The channel’s grid has included sci-fi shows, movies, current affairs’ programs, reality shows, and news broadcasts. The channel has also included major sports events to boost its viewership numbers, while also providing additional coverage with highlights shows related to the top-tier football categories of Spanish football.
Speaking about football, the channel has produced content to cover games featuring the Spanish National Football Team, known as La Roja. Some of the events covered by this channel include the UEFA European Championship and the FIFA World Cup, among others.
TeleCinco started out its broadcasts on a Standard Definition format, but tests to air its signal in HD began in 2010. Lastly, the channel began promoting its signal as TeleCinco HD until February 2012 and has remained like that ever since. A downscaled version of its HD feed is offered to users who are not capable to watch the channel in HD.
