About
Polsat Sport 2 history, coverage, features
Polsat Sport Extra is a Polish TV channel owned and operated by Polsat. The channel was originally launched on October 15, 2005 to help its sister channel Polsat Sport in its coverage of the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
Over the years, Polsat Sport Extra has been used as an overflow channel to Polsat Sport, which is one of the top sports channels in Poland. Their reputation has been cemented on their coverage of various disciplines, which have included football, futsal, motorsports, volleyball, tennis, athletics, rugby, boxing, basketball, handball, beach soccer, beach volleyball, cycling, e-sports, mixed martial arts, and more.
Polsat Sport Extra is frequently referred to as the second most relevant sports channel in the company, especially because the channel owns some different broadcasting rights than those owned by Polsat Sport 1.
Speaking about football, Polsat Sport has focused on airing domestic and international tournaments such as the Polish Second Division, the Polish Super Cup, the Polish Cup, and leagues from other countries such as the Eredivisie, the Fortuna Liga, the MLS, and the Scottish Premiership. Added to these competitions, Polsat Sport Extra has owned broadcasting rights to the Ukrainian Premier League.
International football tournaments have also been featured on this channel. Those tournaments aired on this network over the years have included the UEFA Super Cup, the UEFA Europa League, the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Youth League, the International Champions Cup, and certain games for the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Tournaments for national teams such as the Copa América, UEFA Euro Qualifiers, FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, and games for the Polish National Team have also been aired on this channel.
Polsat Sport Extra was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed was added to the network’s programming on June 1, 2012.
