About FreeSports TV UK

FreeSports is a free-to-air TV channel that launched in the United Kingdom in August 2017. The multi-sports channel is owned by the operators of British pay-TV network Premier Sports. At the time it made its entry in the TV market, FreeSports was the only free-to-air sports channel accessible via BT, Freeview and TalkTalk, with availability on Sky and Freesat as well.

With broadcast rights pertaining to a large array of competitions across various disciplines, FreeSports was introduced with the goal of becoming a leading station for sports coverage. Its extensive football programming to date has included South American competitions such as the Copa Libertadores and the Argentine Superliga. Its history of live football coverage additionally comprises Major League Soccer telecasts; whereas in Europe, its portfolio has included competitions from Belgium, France, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal and Spain.

Furthermore, FreeSports has held broadcasting rights for youth international tournaments such as the UEFA European Under-21 Championship and FIFA U-20 World Cup, alongside senior tournaments like the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Its partnerships with numerous club TV channels enables it to air club TV shows as supplementary football content. Among its club TV partners are Barca TV, Bayern TV, BVB-TV. Aside from football, however, FreeSports’ thousands of hours of sports coverage every year consist of live broadcasts from other sports, including basketball, cricket, ice hockey, motorsports, rugby and tennis.

FreeSports is available in high definition on terrestrial platform Freeview HD on Channel 64, and on cable provider Virgin Media on Channel 553. It is available via satellite on Freesat Channel 252, Sky Channel 422 in the UK and Sky Channel 429 in Ireland. Moreover, it comes on Channel 64 on both IPTV platforms BT Vision and TalkTalk TV.

It must be noted that Freeview users may require a DVB-T2 compatible device to enjoy FreeSports’ content. At its launch, FreeSports’ reach was said to extend to roughly 80% of homes, translating to over 10 million homes in the UK.
