Eurosport 2 Hungary history, coverage, features
Eurosport 2 Hungary is part of the pan-European television network of channels owned and operated by Discovery, Inc. It was launched on January 10, 2005 as a complementary channel to Eurosport. The channel was launched on February 5, 1989 but suffered a brief closure period of one month in May 1991. Eventually, Eurosport would grow into one of the most watched sports channels in Europe due to its large number of broadcasting rights covering a wide range of sports.
Eurosport 2 is known for owning a wide variety of sports that are not aired by other specialized sports channels. Such sports include “alternative” disciplines such as lacrosse, cricket, surfing, handball, Australian rules football, and others. Broadcasting these sports has led Eurosport 2 to name itself as a “new generation sports channel” for quite some time.
Added to those disciplines, Eurosport 2 Hungary has also provided coverage for some football competitions such as the Italian Serie A, La Liga, the German Bundesliga, and other leagues, although their screen time may be limited to showing highlights due to broadcasting rights restrictions.
Eurosport 2 Hungary was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed was made available across all Europe in 2015. Both feeds may be accessed across the country via different pay-tv carriers.
