5FM history, coverage, features
5FM is a South African radio station that broadcasts its content in English. This station is owned and operated by the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), who launched it on October 13, 1975. It was formerly known as Radio 5, a radio station from Mozambique that was also available in South Africa.
Over the years, 5FM has followed a Top 40 music format, with content being aired on the station 24/7 as one of the major changes that came with its new name. 5FM has divided its programming into seven different time slots, which have been frequently referred to as breakfast shows, weekday mid-morning shows, drive time shows, weekday evening and night programming, weekend breakfast shows, weekend shows, and early morning programming.
Speaking about sports, 5FM has covered the most popular disciplines in the country with updates on several of their shows, regardless of the time slot they are located in. Over the years, each sports segment has been conducted by a different sports journalist, which gives users a chance to listen to different points of view.
5FM has been made available in most of the South African territory via numerous repeaters. Added to that, 5FM’s content can also be listened to on the radio station’s website.
