About UAE Pro League
UAE Pro League History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
The UAE Arabian Gulf League is the top-flight league in the United Arab Emirates. Founded in 1973, the competition initially began as the UAE Football League, with the 1973–74 season being a trial campaign – this season was declared official by the FA in 2001, making Sharjah the inaugural champion. The championship then became known as the UAE Pro League before changing their name once more, this time switching to the UAE Arabian Gulf League in 2013/14.
The league follows a double round-robin format, meaning each team faces every other club twice per season. It functions under a promotion/relegation system, with the worst performers dropping down to the UAE First Division League, which is the second tier.
