About Super Cup
The Turkish Super Cup (Turkish: TFF Süper Kupa) is an annual association football cup competition contested in Turkey. It was founded in 1966 and is organised by the Turkish Football Federation. The competition was originally known as the Presidential Cup.
The Turkish Super Cup is played between the previous season's Süper Lig champions and the Turkish Cup winners. If the same club wins both titles in a season, the Turkish Cup runners-up become the finalists.
It is contested as a single-leg match at the beginning of a new season. The game is played for 90 minutes. If it ends in a draw, 30 minutes of extra-time are played. Penalty shoot-outs are used to determine the winner if one does not emerge after 120 minutes.
Remarkably, Trabzonspor was the first club in the history to win the Turkish Super Cup five times in succession (1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, and 1980). Meanwhile, Besiktas was the first to make seven consecutive appearances in the cup's history (1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, and 1995).
