About Liga Nacional
History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
Honduras’ Liga Nacional, known as Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional de Honduras in full, is the country’s top-flight league. The competition, in its current professional format, was founded in 1964, with Platense lifting that very first title. The championship follows the split season format of several Spanish-speaking leagues, meaning each campaign is split into two sections: the Apertura (opening) and the Clausura (closing).
