About
RTS 1 history, coverage, features
RTS 1 is a Serbian public television channel owned and operated by the Radio and Television System of Serbia. It was launched on August 23, 1958 under the name Televizija Beograd, a name that would last until 1971, when it was rebranded to TVB 1. In 1992, the channel would undergo another rebranding, this time to RTS B1, but that change would only last for three years, when its parent company decided to name it RTS 1. It is the first public television channel to see the light in Serbia.
Over the years, RTS 1 has been known as a general interest channel due to its connection to the local government. Some of the topics that have been covered on this channel have included news, magazine shows, cultural shows, sports, TV series, movies, and cooking programs. While most of the content aired on this channel has been produced within the country, there have been other shows and series that have been produced abroad.
Speaking about sports, RTS 1 has covered disciplines such as football, basketball, motorsports, tennis, winter sports, and more. When it comes to football, RTS 1 has included tournaments such as the UEFA Champions League, different editions of the FIFA World Cup, and Qualifying matches for the quadrennial competition.
RTS 1 was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a HD feed saw the light in 2010 to improve the audience’s experience. Both feeds may still be available in certain regions of the country via different pay-tv carriers.
