About

RTE Player history, coverage, features

RTÉ Player is a video on-demand service owned and operated by Irish media broadcaster RTÉ. It was originally launched on April 21, 2009. The service offers general entertainment programming such as local and international drama shows, news, current affairs, sports, and more. RTÉ Player also divides its content in two different feeds: one for Irish and Northern Irish users, and the other one for international users.

One of RTÉ Player’s most appealing features is the exclusive content developed by RTÉ for this streaming platform. Most of the content can be streamed for a limited period of time, which may go from 7 to 21 days depending on the show’s nature.

A new version of the RTÉ Player was launched on March 4, 2015. The revamped version of this app allows users to download all the content included in it for as long as it is available. The enhanced version of the app is only available for iOS users, while the older version is still available for desktop and Android users.

The RTÉ Player is not only available for desktop, Android or iOS users. Owners of a video game console such as PS3, PS4 or PS Vita will also be allowed to watch the content on the RTÉ Player.
