M2 History, Coverage, Features

M2 is a Hungarian television channel owned and operated by Magyar Televízió. The channel was launched on November 7, 1973 as a test signal, but it would eventually turn into a regular channel two years later.

Over the years, M2 was known as a general entertainment channel, with news, documentaries, and other type of shows being aired on the channel, but that would change on December 22, 2012, when its content included children’s programming for the better part of the day and youth-related content at night. During the night shift, the channel would switch its name to M2 Petöfi.

As stated before, M2’s content has included mostly children’s movies and cartoons, but the network may also be used as an overflow channel to some of the top football events in the world. In the past, M2 has been used to cover tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA Euro.

M2 was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed was developed to see the light in 2008. Eventually, the HD feed would replace the SD option, but a downscaled version of the High-Definition option has been made available for users who do not have access to HD technology.
