About

M6.fr History, Coverage, Features

M6 is a French television channel owned and operated by the M6 Group. It is also known as Metropole Television, and it was launched on March 1, 1987. M6 has seven sister channels, and is also linked to magazines, movie production companies, media-related firms, and more.

M6 is seen as a general entertainment channel, with most of its programming aimed at a younger audience such as teenagers and young adults. Other shows aired by the network have included magazines shows, TV movies, children’s shows, news broadcasts, and sports.

When it comes to sports, M6 kicked off their offer during the 1998 FIFA World Cup, with an unsuccessful show called 0% Football. Since then, the channel has added more competitions to its programming, such as the UEFA Euro Qualifiers featuring the French National Team, the UEFA European Championship, the FIFA World Cup, and club tournaments such as the UEFA Europa League. In fact, the top ten most watched shows in the network’s history have been football events. The highest rating for a show aired by M6 belongs to the 2016 UEFA Euro final featuring France and Portugal, which saw Portugal claim their first-ever title in the tournament. Other sports covered by this network have included motorbike competitions and rugby.

M6 launched a catch-up service known as 6replay on March 19, 2008. This service allowed users to stream content one hour after its original launch on TV via web devices, excluding movies. The platform added four thematic channels to increase its coverage in 2014, while also adding a live feed which may exclude some content due to copyright or streaming restrictions. The platform’s new design has allowed users to receive personalized recommendations based on their viewing choices.
