About
Dvojka history, coverage, features
Dvojka is a Slovak television channel owned and operated by the Slovak Radio and Television System, also known as RTVS. The channel was launched on January 1, 1993 under the name STV2. In 2004, RTVS would decide to rebrand the channel to Dvojka.
Being a public network, Dvojka has frequently been labeled as general entertainment channel, with local shows, documentaries, films, news broadcasts and children’s programming being available on the channel’s grid. Most of the content aired on the channel has been produced in-house, but some foreign productions have also been available on Dvojka.
Speaking about sports, Dvojka has covered major disciplines such as football, basketball, or other team sports via highlights. Live coverage of football games has come when a major tournament, such as the FIFA World Cup or the UEFA Euro are being played. Club football has also been part of the channel’s programming, with live games of the UEFA Europa Conference League being aired from time to time. Added to that, UEFA World Cup Qualifying matches may also be aired on this channel whenever Slovakia is involved.
Dvojka was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition channel has been added to improve viewer’s experience. Both feeds might still be available to watch on certain pay-tv carriers across the country.
