About
ESPN3 Mexico history, coverage, features
ESPN is an American sports network specializing in sports. It is owned by ESPN, Inc and operated by The Walt Disney Company Latin America. It is available in most Latin American countries. It was initially launched on September 15, 1988, as a test channel, but its official launch came on March 31, 1989.
To provide fans across Latin America with the proper kind of content, ESPN has expanded its coverage with additional channels almost everywhere in the world. Such is the case of ESPN Norte, where ESPN 3 Norte was launched on November 14, 2011.
ESPN 3 Norte’s signal is generated by the channel’s headquarters in Mexico. The channel has not only shown live sports since its launch, as documentaries, TV series, sports movies, and more have also been aired on this channel. Live sports coverage on this channel has included football, tennis, basketball, baseball, boxing, cycling, aquatic sports, extreme sports, motorsports, eSports, American football, golf, weight-lifting, hockey, polo, rugby, college sports, and more.
Speaking about football, ESPN 3 Norte has aired international competitions such as the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, the UEFA Super Cup, the UEFA Women’s Champions League, the International Champions Cup, the Emirates Cup, and national team competitions such as the Toulon Tournament, AFCON Qualifying matches, and FIFA World Cup Qualifiers featuring the USMNT.
Domestic football has also been covered on ESPN 3 Norte, with games for the Italian Serie A, the French Ligue 1, the Eredivisie, the Major League Soccer, and the Mexican Primera División. Other local tournaments covered by this channel have included the Coppa Italia, the Copa MX, and the French Super Cup, among others.
ESPN 3 Norte was launched as a Standard Definition channel back in the day, but an HD feed was launched in 2013, replacing the SD feed in many regions. A downscaled version of this feed is used to satisfy users who still watch television with a Standard Definition format.
