About DR 2

DR 2 is a Danish television channel owned and operated by the Danish Broadcasting Corporation. The channel was launched on August 30, 1996 to increase the network’s free-to-air TV offer, even if it was launched as a limited access channel back then. Eventually, the channel would be added to the terrestrial broadcast offer on March 31, 2006. It is considered as the second most-relevant channel of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation over its sister channels, DR 2 and DR 3.

Over the years, DR 2 has been categorized as a more highbrow type of channel, with experimental comedy shows, documentaries, and TV series being aired on this network. Nevertheless, its parent network decided to add news broadcasts and current affairs shows to make it easier for users to watch. It has been the only tv channel owned by the Danish Broadcasting Corporation that has not stopped its regular programming in favor of breaking news.

DR 2 was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed was made available to all users in Denmark to enhance their viewing experience. Eventually, the SD feed was dropped on February 28, 2017 in favor of the HD broadcast, with downscaled versions of the channel being available to users who do not have access to HD technology.
