About
Space Brazil history, coverage, features
Space is a Latin American pay-tv channel created in 1991 by a company named Imagen Satelital. It would later be sold to Claxson Interactive Group in 1997, which would own the channel for ten years, before Turner Broadcasting System Latin America acquired the channel. Space’s feed was available in Argentina from 1991 forward, while the Brazilian channel was launched in 2007.
Throughout its history, Space has focused on airing shows for men and women over 18 years of age. Over the years, Space has shown TV series, American movies, and sports. The channel has frequently changed the thematic of the movies it has shown to fit with the season of the year.
Speaking about sports, Space started airing NBA games and boxing events. Later, the channel would start airing American Wrestling events. The channel would eventually expand to football coverage, with the Brazilian Copa Verde, the Copa do Nordeste, and the Spanish Copa del Rey being included in its programming. The channel would benefit from the closure of Esporte Interativo, as broadcasting rights for the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Nations League, and the Brazilian Serie A would be transferred to this channel.
Space has been available in Standard Definition since its launch, but a state-of-the-art HD feed was developed and launched in 2009. Both feeds are still available for users to watch.
