Multimedios TV History, Coverage, Features
Multimedios TV, or Canal 6, is a limited access television channel owned and operated by Grupo Multimedios. The channel, located in Monterrey, Nuevo León, was launched locally on February 24, 1968, and it began its expansion to other Mexican cities in the 1980s. The channel know owns over twenty affiliates in Mexico, which have made it is signal available in many states around the country.
Over the years, Multimedios TV has been labeled as a general entertainment channel, with news, variety shows, comedy shows, sports, soap operas, political debate shows, and game shows being part of its programming. The channel has tried to add more non-regional content to satisfy the needs of those watching who do not necessarily live in Nuevo León.
Speaking about sports, Multimedios TV has focused on airing the most popular disciplines in the region, which have included football, baseball, and basketball over the years. Specifically talking about football, Multimedios TV is known for its pre and post-match coverage for both Liga MX teams from Nuevo León: Tigres UANL and Monterrey. Furthermore, the channel added live Liga MX games for Chivas Guadalajara in certain regions of the country.
Multimedios TV started broadcasting its content in Standard Definition, but a High Definition feed was launched in 2016. There is also a downscaled version of this feed available to users who have not been able to switch to HD technology. Added to its availability in most major cities in Mexico, Multimedios TV has also been available in some Canadian and American cities.
