Canal+ France History, Coverage, Features
Canal+ is a privately funded television channel from France, which is owned and operated by the Canal+ Group, a subsidiary for the French mass media conglomerate Vivendi. It was launched on November 4, 1984. Most of its content has been encrypted over the years, but there are some unencrypted shows available on some satellite and cable channels.
Over the years, Canal+ France has offered subtitled content for all users, especially when foreign movies and TV series are being aired. Other features used over the years include accessibility for the visually impaired and audio description for some shows.
Canal+ France can be considered as a general entertainment channel, with their programs ranging from original shows from France and Great Britain, American TV shows, kids’ shows, Italian shows, aminated TV programs from Japan, and more.
Canal+ and the group that owns it has developed a number of dedicated channels to broadcast more content. Canal+ Cinema, Canal+ Sport, Canal+ Family, Canal+ Series, Canal+ Décalé, C8, CStar and CNews have all been sister channels to Canal+ over the years, alongo with the HD versions od most of those channels.
Canal+ was launched on Standard Definition format, but a new HD feed was made available to the public in 2006. The regular SD feed is now a downscaled version of the HD feed.
