How England qualified for Euro 2012
The Three Lions went through the Euro Cup qualifiers unbeaten under the guidance of Fabio Capello. They netted 17 goals and conceded just 5 in their 8 matches. Montenegro and Switzerland gave them the biggest scare. The former stole 4 points away from England through a goalless encounter at Wembley and a 2-2 draw in Podgorica.
That game in Montenegro saw Wayne Rooney get in serious trouble. The Manchester United striker lost his mind and got sent off with a rash retaliation on a Montengran opponent. His direct red card offense means that England will have to do without his services on the first 2 Matchdays of the competition.
Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick decided that he did not want to travel to Euro 2012 if he was going to have to watch from the sidelines. The English Football Association announced that Carrick had notified them a few months back about not wanting to be a squad player.
The English FA officially announced the signing of Roy Hodgson as the new head coach of the England team. While their are many mixed emotions in regards to this decision, what has led the FA to go with Hodgson over some of the other choices they may have had?
To be honest, I think the only beneficial thing that comes out of this for the English FA is the fact that Hodgson is English. I have never been a fan of an International team coach not being from that same country. An interesting fact that not many people may know is that if we go all the way back to 1970, no team has won an international competition without a coach from that country.
The Reds will return to Premier League action this weekend, and Kenny Dalglish will face off against West Bromwich Albion manager Roy Hodgson, the man he replaced in the Anfield hot seat.
While it seems like a normal Premier League clash between West Brom and Liverpool, there is something else that is providing all the personification as both teams seek to continue their revival towards the end of the season. Roy Hodgson will be facing his former employers, Liverpool who sacked him in January after only six months into the job.
Di Matteo was thrown out of the bag earlier this week. Now a statement from West Brom confirmed the capture of Kenny Dalglish's predecessor at Anfield. It stated:
Earlier on, there were heavy speculations over Hodgson’s future at the Liverpool club, following the manager’s incapability to give the Reds satisfying results this season. Roy refused to give details over his destiny at Anfield during a press conference after Liverpool’s loss to Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League; however, fervent supporters of the team were hoping to see him out before their tough challenge in the FA Cup at Old Trafford against Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United.
Liverpool Rumours: Roy Hodgson Says Goodbye Before The Sack
Roy Hodgson is hanging from a tread with Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat to Blackburn Rovers pushing the Merseyside Reds’ supporters to generate more anxiety and anger than ever this season. The coach’s days – if not hours – at the club are counted as Liverpool look to find a solution to their alarming condition.
A couple of months ago, Roy Hodgson had received warnings from supporters to resign – to which he responded that he was set to maintain his post with the aim of guiding Liverpool to achieve better things this year. However, info from English media The Sun apparently reveals that the under-pressure manager has now considered parting company with the Reds before getting the sack.
At a press conference “which lasted barely 2 minutes”, according to the Telegraph, Roy Hodgson made himself clear over the fact that he did not want to answer any question regarding his future with Liverpool. “I am not prepared to talk about my future,” he confirmed.
The Liverpool manager has seen the Merseyside Reds’ squad reshuffle following the departure of Rafael Benitez. Paul Konchesky, Poulsen and Raul Meireles are three players whom Roy Hodgson was “happy to bring to the club”. But the feeling is perhaps not the same for Joe Cole and Milan Jovanovic who also landed at Anfield during last summer’s transfer window.
The appointment apparently came as a “complete shock” to Reds manager Roy Hodgson, though he put a good face on it.
“It is a strategy which I think makes sense, especially for our club at this moment in time because we are in a period of transition with new owners,”...
Currently, there are speculations that Dirk Kuyt is on his way out of Anfield with countryman Wesley Sneijder expressing his desire to team up with the Liverpool forward. However, Coach Roy Hodgson was quick to explain things to the media when asked about issues surrounding these rumors. The 62-year-old, who is struggling to help the Merseyside Reds rebuild their fortress, told the press:
“We haven’t received an offer, and Dirk hasn’t told me he would want to leave if one comes in. When Benitez left the club, he signed an agreement that he would not poach players. And I think that still applies.
Mascherano is ready to become a Barcelona player with rumors suggesting that the Argentine has agreed a deal with the Spanish Super Cup champions which will see him earn £ 85,000 a week. As he commentated on the defender's absence during Liverpool’s away match to Manchester City, Roy Hodgson admitted:
“Mascherano wasn’t in the right frame of mind to play. His head has been turned. But he should know that the fee we would want and the fee that we’ve been offered by Barcelona are some distance apart. That being the case, it could be that he is unhappy for a long time yet.”
The former Fulham manager believes that Sky Blues coach, Roberto Mancini, is now under pressure to help his club deliver titles. Approximately £122m has gone out of Manchester City’s pocket since the start of the 2010 summer transfer window and Coach Roy Hodgson gave his thoughts over Manchester City’s team as he told the Mirror:
“If you look at their squad of players and the amount that they’ve spent, then everybody sees them as a very strong squad with a very good chance of winning the league. I’m sure that they’ll be devastated if they don’t finish in the top three and qualify for the Champions League, because the owners have spent so much money.”
The Barcelona-Liverpool Mascherano deal is a player-plus-cash issue, according to Ole. It includes a sum of €15m and Aliaksandr Hleb paid by the Blaugrana to the Merseyside Reds. On Thursday, it was reported that both clubs had come to an agreement regarding the deal following Mascherano’s confessed desire to leave Liverpool and Barcelona’s urgent need to fill the void created by Yaya Toure’s switch to Manchester City.
On Friday however, former Fulham Coach Roy Hodgson stated during a press conference:
“At the moment, Javier Mascherano has shown no signs of going. It isn’t a question of ‘are you going to replace Mascherano?’
