Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed the candidate who will most likely get the England job if the FA decides to hire an English manager.

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes he knows the manager who stands the highest chance to take the England job following Roy Hodgson’s resignation. Hodgson retired when his contract with the Three Lions came to an end after the England vs Iceland Euro 2016 match.

Hogdson’s men were bundled out of the European Championship by minnows Iceland in the last round of 16, a result that sparked nationwide outrage. Many England fans had called for the resignation of the English boss since the beginning of the tournament when they recorded quite a disappointing performance at the group stage where they were largely considered the bigwigs alongside Wales, Slovakia and Russia.

And now, Sir Alex Ferguson believes Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce (pictured below) is the ‘obvious choice’ for the English job if the FA wants a candidate from England. Both Guus Hiddink, Arsene Wenger, Jurgen Klinsmann and Alan Pardew have also been linked with the vacant post within the past few months.

"The problem is there was an expectation England would do well and because they didn't, it's all a bit flat.

"It's very difficult to think of the right man and there are only three English managers in the Premier League. With Sam [Allardyce]'s experience, he is the obvious choice.

"But I think they have to search wider to make sure they get the right one. If it's Sam, fine. But they have to have someone with the capabilities, the tactical awareness and the feel for the national side.''
