Sam Allardyce will face an acid test in his first competitive match as England manager.

New England boss Sam Allardyce will face his first major international assignment on September 4, 2016 against Slovakia in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier match. The Three Lions played Slovakia in European Championship one month ago, and the result was a goalless draw.

Big Sam will be hoping to restore confidence to his side in preparations for the big match. The former Sunderland boss, however, refused to disclose if Wayne Rooney would still be the captain of the Three Lions. He claimed that it was ‘too early’ to tell, amid reports that the 61-year-old is planning to conduct a massive squad overhaul in his reign as the new boss.

Allardyce replaced Roy Hodgson, whose contract with the FA came to an end when Iceland beat England in the knockout stage of the European Championship in France. Hogdson had been widely criticised for being ‘boring’ in his approach and the charismatic Allardyce has been tipped to restore England’s lost confidence and pride at the international level.
