England fans are on the moon following Roy Hodgson's announcement of his resignation as the country's national team coach.

England fans were a happy lot when coach Roy Hodgson announced his resignation from the managerial post after the Three Lions’ 2-1 humiliation in the hands of Iceland. Following the embarrassing result, England have now been bundled out of the European Championship.

Minnows Iceland, who were making their debut at the tournament, have written yet another brilliant underdog story in Europe this season after Leicester City’s historic title win in the Premier League. Coincidentally, Iceland’s total population is 323,000 almost the same size of Leicester’s.

Hodgson took over England in 2012 and has overseen 55 international matches. Out of the 55 games, his men registered 33 wins, 15 draws and eight loses. By the time of his resignation, the 68-year-old boss had a 58.9% winning rate for England the national football team.

Many England fans had called for his resignation following their 1-1 draw with Russia in their opening match of the Euro 2016.  The former West Brom and Fullham boss had been accused of gambling with the first team selection that lead to a series of unconvincing performances at the group stage and the much-awaited announcement finally arrived.
