About UEFA Europa League

The UEFA Europa League – previously called the UEFA Cup and founded in 1971 – is Europe's second-tier club competition.

No team has won more UEFA Europa League titles than Sevilla (5). Remarkably, the Andalusia-based club have scooped all of their five trophies in the last 10 years at the expense of Middlesbrough (2004), Espanyol (2005), Benfica (2014), Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk (2015) and Liverpool (2016) respectively.

After being hosted at the Amsterdam Arena in the Netherlands, the Juventus Stadium in Italy, the Stadion Narodowy in Poland and more recently at the St. Jakob-Park in Switzerland, the 2016-17 UEFA Europa League final was awarded to the Friends Arena in Solna, Sweden. The dates of the competition this season are as follows:

  • Group stage: September 15, 2016 – December 8, 2016
  • Round of 32: February 16, 2017 – February 23, 2017
  • Round of 16: March 9, 2017 – March 16, 2017
  • Quarter-finals: April 13, 2017 – April 20, 2017
  • Semi-finals: May 4, 2017 – May 11, 2017
  • Final: May 24, 2016

Did you know? UEFA Europa League title experts Sevilla have triumphed only once in the UEFA Super Cup (back in 2006). Despite winning as many as five Europa League titles, Los Rojiblancos have not been very lucky against UEFA Champions League winners. Sevilla have lost each of their last four UEFA Super Cup matches to Milan (2007), Real Madrid (2014, 2016) and Barcelona (2015).
