About England - Premier League

The English Premier League (EPL), officially called the Barclays Premier League after its current sponsor, the Barclays Bank, is England's top club league competition. The league in its current format was founded on February 20, 1992 and is composed of 20 teams that play 38 rounds to contest the title.

The bottom placed three teams are relegated to the Football League Championship while three new clubs gain promotion. Middlesbrough, Hull City and Burnley gained promotion for the 2016-17 English Premier League campaign, replacing relegated clubs Newcastle United, Norwich City and Aston Villa. The current champions are Leicester City who won the title with 81 points, 10 points clear of 2nd placed team Arsenal. Dethroned champions Chelsea, meanwhile, only finished 10th in 2016.

The 2016-17 EPL campaign runs from August 13, 2016 to May 21, 2017. The Premier League is in its 25th season. Manchester United is the most successful club with 13 titles to its name. Along side its star-studded line up of coaches such as Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, the on-going EPL season also boasts the presence of World Football's most expensive signing ever, £89M-rated midfielder Paul Pogba.

Did you know? Arsenal's Arsene Wenger is the longest serving manager among the current coaches in the EPL. He was appointed on October 1, 1996.
