After a disastrous and humiliating exit for England at Euro 2016, captain Wayne Rooney vows to continue his international career with the Three Lions.

On Monday night, England took on underdogs Iceland in the round of 16 of UEFA Euro 2016, and the result came to a shock to many around the world. At first, the English supporters were thrilled to have been paired up with Iceland in the last 16 match compared to other rivals such as France or Germany, but it did not end pretty for the Three Lions. Roy Hodgson's men performed poorly on the pitch, which resulted in a terrible 2-1 loss to England.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, the Manchester United forward labeled the defeat to Iceland as an 'embarrassment' saying,

"It is tough; they scored two and we couldn’t get the equalizer. It is a hard one to take; it is embarrassing.

"We know we are a better team. You can’t explain it by saying we could have done this or that. We tried to create chances but unfortunately we couldn’t win."

Despite the shameful loss to Iceland, the 30-year-old striker will not be following in Argentina's Lionel Messi's footsteps, as he will not retire from international football.

"I said it before the tournament, and I’ve been asked many times, but I’m proud to play for England and I’ll see who the next manager is and if selected, I’m available to play."Roy-Hodgson

Following their shocking exit from this top-flight tournament, Roy Hodgson announced his resignation as manager of England and Rooney only had words of praise for the 68-year-old coach.

"Roy told all the players (of his decision to resign) after the game and went around and thanked them all.

"As a group of players we appreciate what he’s done for us, he has given a lot of them their England debuts and you can’t forget that.

"It is hard to see it now, but the future is bright."
