Arsenal superstar Samir Nasri is expected to miss the Gunners’ games against Everton in the Premier League and against FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League due to a hamstring injury.

Nasri is reported to have obtained his wound at the weekend while playing against Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup. It is still not confirmed until when Nasri will have stay away from the pitch, but Arsenal Coach Arsene Wenger is already irritated by the situation.
"Nasri looks to have a serious hamstring injury," he said. "Usually it is three weeks (out of action, but) we have to see if it is a grade one because that can be two (weeks).
"It is a big blow... How big? I do not know because the results in the future will tell, but it is a big blow.
Arsene Wenger seems to have lost confidence in Arsenal’s hunt for a central defender. The injured Squillaci is nearing recovery after all...

Arsenal keep being linked with a host of players when it comes to transfer matters. Lately, Coach Arsene Wenger had affirmed the Gunners’ interest in Bolton’s Gary Cahill.
However, it now seems as if no deal will go through for the defender to land at the Emirates Stadium. Another rumoured Arsenal transfer target, Christopher Samba, has been put out of the picture as it appears like the player is willing to remain at his current club Blackburn.
This week, a new name has popped up in Arsenal-related transfer news – and it’s PSG’s Mamadou Sakho.
Arsenal will be looking to overturn a 1-0 deficit when they host Ipswich Town in the Carling Cup Semi-Final Second Leg.

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas was critical of the tactics of Ipswich in the first leg at Portman Road. Fabregas described the ploy used by Ipswich as a mixture of “long ball” and “rugby” when talking to BBC Sport.
Fabregas and his teammates will likely face a similar approach again, and must accept it and break down Ipswich if they hope to make a Cup Final and have a shot at ending their five year trophy drought.
Arsene Wenger was less quick to make excuses, and will be expecting
better of Fabregas and his teammates. Wenger described the 1-0 first leg defeat as “naïve.” Wenger did tell BBC Sport he was confident the Gunners will turn it around in the home leg, though he will be rotating his squad to do so.
Transfer news about Arsenal are rather rumours when it comes to negotiation matters. Wenger is resolute not to reveal anything until things materialize.

Coach Arsene Wenger had confirmed a few weeks ago that the Gunners will need to spend on the market following injury worries in the squad’s defensive department. A host of players have been linked with Arsenal since then. The latest of those is Bolton’s Gary Cahill but Wenger was quick not to be tricked by the media’s questions when quizzed about the issue on Friday.
“At the moment, I can’t come out with any name. I think that Gary Cahill is a very good player, yes. But I cannot tell you more.
“We like keeping our transfer negotiations always very secret because it puts more pressure on when you go public. So, you would understand that we don’t want to speak publicly about that.”
Arsenal are in contention to avoid a 6-year title drought. The Gunners’ Carling Cup semi-final clash against Ipswich Town tonight is a match that they’ve vowed not to take lightly.

Interestingly, however, manager Arsene Wenger has downplayed the obsession of achieving silverware. Speaking to The Mirror, he explained that Arsenal’s failure to lift a single trophy since the past 5 years had not driven him mad.
“It is not as much of a mental block for us as it appears in the media and as it is for supporters,” Arsene Wenger explained.
“There is a big bond from what you read every day and then, it gets into your brain. Of, course, I want to end it [that title drought].
“But, being professional isn’t to look at the trophies but to focus on the quality of our performance.”
Arsenal will travel to face Ipswich Town in the first leg of their Carling Cup semi-final on Wednesday night.

Arsenal will travel to face Ipswich Town in the first leg of their Carling Cup semi-final on Wednesday night.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is under some pressure for lifting no silverware at all in the last five years, this competition provides Wenger with an opportunity to end that barren run. After being held to a draw by Championship outfit Leeds United at the weekend in the FA Cup, the Gunners will be hoping to fire their way to a Wembley Stadium final in this tie.
Ipswich will be led by Ian McParland, who will be taking charge of his last game as caretaker manager before Paul Jewell takes the reins. McParland has took charge for a brutal pair of opponents, with this game coming hot on the heels of Sunday’s 7-0 FA Cup demolition at the hands of Chelsea.
Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger was resolute not to spend during the January transfer window. However, with Squillaci’s possible long absence, the coach has admitted that he may have to think otherwise...

During last weekend’s draw against Leeds United in the FA Cup 3rd Round, Sebastien Squillaci suffered a muscle strain which could leave him sidelined for some weeks for Arsenal. Already, the Gunners are without central defender Thomas Vermaelen – meaning that the team’s available defensive duo (made of Djourou and Koscielny) would struggle to cooperate should it be hit by suspension or injury.
ESPN Soccernet reported Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger as explaining the matter. The Frenchman stated:
“If we only have 2 centre-backs, then that can’t work with the number of centre-backs that we have. If Squillaci has a problem, then we must quickly go out for a player.”
Chelsea’s Didier Drogba has imposed himself as the man to watch every time Arsenal and Chelsea meet. With his record of 10 goals in 7 matches against the Gunners, there’s certainly a reason for Wenger to be wary.

Just a few hours ahead of Monday night’s Arsenal vs Chelsea match, the French manager spoke to reporters as he shared his troubles concerning the game’s “Didier Drogba factor”. Besides the remarkable record that the Ivorian player holds against the Gunners, there is also something else that could threaten Arsenal more than ever: it’s all about Didier Drogba’s unquenchable thirst to hit top form for the first time since a few weeks now.
Following the promise made by Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti that Blues fans would see a “different Drogba” at the Emirates Stadium, Coach Arsene Wenger is now thinking of organizing his players well for the battle that the Ivorian striker is set to pose. Unlike some proud Arsenal supporters who may overlook the value of Drogba, Coach Arsene Wenger prefers to be realistic based on facts as he avowed:
Why do Arsenal restrict themselves from having busy transfer window periods when the club is cupless since 2005? “Because we pay what we can afford, period!” Arsene Wenger would answer.

In fact, if cup success is something that Europe’s big clubs know, huge debts is also something that they have. Now that’s a fact which no club – whether Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona or even Inter Milan – can deny.
Still, it seems normal to see top clubs splashing money on the table to win transfer window battles for the signing one or more particular players. Meanwhile, Arsenal don’t follow this trend – at the anxiety of many Gunners and at the delight of anti-Arsenal fans who make fun of the London club’s lack of silverware in the past few years.
Arsenal fans have been crying out to Coach Arsene Wenger for a few important signings to be made ahead of the January transfer window...

Gunners supporters want Arsenal to welcome a new central defender and a goalkeeper as they lament the team’s weakness at the back. However, although Arsene Wenger has heard the prayers of Arsenal followers, he is not ready to grant them.
The Frenchman, who is known – and most often criticized – for favouring very tight transfer budgets, prefers to stick to his youth development system even if the clock explains that it has been almost 6 years now since Arsenal last lifted a trophy. The signing of ex-Zenith St. Petersburg star Arshavin in 2009 actually marks Wenger’s last winter transfer deal from 2006 till now.
Earlier on, the coach had commentated on the possibility of spending “unusually” in January. However, he is now reviewing his decision as he told Arsenal’s official club website:
Arsenal will take on Manchester United soon, and Coach Arsene Wenger believes that this is the moment for the Gunners to show that they have greatness in their spirit.

“We have an opportunity to show how good we are. That’s what you want in life.
“Let’s go without any preconceived ideas – not thinking about any weakness of Manchester United, nor about any weakness from us. Let’s just focus on the day; to give your best, to play with belief, to play for each other.
“In this way, we have a good chance to beat anybody. I know that my team will be really up for it. I always have great belief in my players.
“I know how hungry they are for success, and I’m sure that this will show in the game [against Manchester United].
Arsene Wenger is trying to downplay the pressure that is being created by the media ahead of Monday night’s Manchester United vs Arsenal match in the English Premier League…
The Frenchman certainly has a point in doing so, especially after witnessing the outcome of November’s El Clasico. What matter in soccer is the battle on the field, not pre-match talks as Arsene Wenger could explain:
“It’s normal, because you can only say so much. And at the end of the day, what’s most interesting is not what is said before the game. It’s what happens during the game,” the Arsenal manager was quoted as saying on the club’s official website.
“It was the same before Barcelona vs Real Madrid the other day,” Wenger recalled.
“Everybody spoke, spoke, spoke and then, when the game happened, it was a one-way traffic [as Barcelona won 5-0].”
Arsenal will affront eliminated Partizan in London tonight. The last match-day of the Champions League is crucial for the Gunners…

In a few hours, football fans will know if Arsenal can successfully overcome tricky conditions like the one in which they are currently in the Champions League. Following two consecutive defeats in Europe, away to Shakhtar Donetsk and Sporting Braga respectively, Arsenal’s position in the competition remains uncertain ahead of tonight’s match at home to Partizan.
Mathematic calculations explain that the Gunners could not only lose out on a top spot finish, but also slip into the Europa League. However, Coach Arsene Wenger prefers to stay positive as the Gunners eye Last 16 qualification. In an interview, the French manager made sure to make his point:
Arsenal will have to fight a vital battle at home to Partizan on Wednesday night. Fortunately enough for the Gunners, defender Laurent Koscielny has been deemed fit for this Champions League match.

The French player had suffered an “unnecessary” foul last weekend as he clashed against his team mate, Sebastien Squillaci. At first, Koscielny was thought to have sustained the kind of injury that would have seen him miss some weeks of action. However, recent reports explain that the Gunner may even start against Partizan on Wednesday night.
“Koscielny has been declared fit to play, and he will play tomorrow,”
Coach Arsene Wenger told the media. The manager then went on to give more details about Arsenal’s squad ahead of their Champions League match:
“We’ll lose Djourou, because we’re a bit cautious with him. He could have played with a risk, but we didn’t want to take a risk.
Just as the Champions League enters its final match-day in the group stages, Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal have one thing in mind: to defeat Partizan Belgrade and eventually reach the Last 16 of the competition.

It actually seems hard to imagine the Gunners succumbing to a shock and subsequently having to settle for Europa League football. Although Sporting Braga are plotting such a thing to happen as the Portuguese warriors aim to make history by going beyond the group phase of the Champions League, Coach Arsene Wenger is not willing to give in to any sort of pressure.
The Frenchman, who has seen his side playing quite well lately, is eying a great night at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night. He told English media The Telegraph:
“[Against Partizan]I am confident that we will deliver the requested performance and the qualification.”
Arsenal have no chance of signing Fulham’s 38-year-old goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer. Wenger had reportedly been eying a January move for the Australian. But the player has extended his contract with Fulham today.

Arsenal and Fulham are to clash against each other in the English Premier League this weekend, and Schwarzer has put an end to any kind of transfer speculations by signing a new deal with the Cottagers although it was believed that the player and the Gunners had agreed on personal terms before.
A few months ago, Mark Schwarzer’s name was in the summer transfer news as Wenger was looking to land his services for around £4M. However, Fulham – who didn’t to sell their shot stopper for a cheap price – couldn’t find a replacement for Schwarzer either.
A week ago, interestingly, Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger came out to confirm that the Gunners will not be busy on the market in January as he told the media:
Who will break Arsenal’s formidable form in the UEFA Champions League this season? Arsene Wenger hopes Shakhtar Donetsk won’t be the ones to do so tonight…

The Ukrainian side decently defeated Partizan 1-0 on the night when Arsenal whipped Sporting Braga 6-0. But after making the most of Braga’s inexperience in European football on match-day two, Shakhtar Donetsk will face the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium with confident spirits.
The team’s captain, Darijo Srna, is an admirer of Arsenal’s type of football but he thinks his side also possess enough strength.
“They [Arsenal] are very quick and their offensive players are really strong and aggressive. I’d say that they are even performing better than Barcelona now,” Srna was quoted as saying by ESPNsoccernet.com
Arsenal will face Partizan on Tuesday in the UEFA Champions League. But Wenger has revealed that “the whole squad is very low” following their recent shocking defeat.
Arsenal’s miraculous 1-1 draw at Anfield in their first competitive match this season, which followed with a remarkable unbeaten run incited football pundits to predict that the Gunners’ first defeat in all competitions would come against a top club like Chelsea or Manchester United. Last weekend in the English Premier League, however, West Bromwich Albion triumphed over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium to create an upset against all the odds.
The Gunners’ 3-2 defeat against the newly promoted West Brom was actually unexpected, and Coach Arsene Wenger has now admitted that it has affected Arsenal’s momentum ahead of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League match away to Partizan Belgrade.
“The mood is still very low,” the French man confirmed according to The Mirror.

The big fish from the Premier League now swim among the surviving minnows as the 4th Round of the FA Cup gets underway this weekend. Here we preview a match up of two of those big fish. New Premier League leaders Arsenal visit 11th place Stoke City on Sunday. The Gunners are in fine form; the Potters are struggling. One fish will gobble up the other and in an FA Cup tie anything can happen.
Stoke come into the FA Cup 4th Round having beaten York City by a comfortable 3-1 margin in the 3rd Round. Despite the vast difference in quality between the two clubs’ respective leagues, the match at first seemed in doubt.
Match-day 1’s two winners in Group H, Olympiakos and Arsenal, will affront themselves on Tuesday in the second round of the UEFA Champions League.
Both teams are locked on top of the table with the same number of points and goal difference.
Lucky & Lucky – Arsenal and Olympiakos clash to create thrill
These two teams struggled to clinch victories a fortnight ago in their respective games. Arsenal had to come back from two goals down to win by three goals to two. However, the Gunners’ victory was controversial as cameras showed that Vermaleen’s second half equalizer was clearly offside.
