The player could arrive at the Emirates as early as the January transfer window.

Long has it been since Arsenal had a talented defensive midfielder. Francis Coquelin tried and did well for a short while, but now neither he nor Granit Xhaka offers proper cover for the Gunners’ back four.

As a result, rumors that the north London club has signed a defensive midfielder will be music to the ears of Gooners. According to El Gol, the player set to move to the Emirates is Steven N’Zonzi.

The French midfielder has established himself in La Liga, emerging as key player in the Spanish Primera Division. Arsenal fans demanded that Wenger move for the former Stoke City player over the summer and were disappointed when nothing happened, but N’Zonzi could now arrive at Arsenal as early as the January transfer window.

Furthermore, the report claims he will cost the club $47m. Although El Gol writes that the deal is yet to be finalized, only formalities remain.

N’Zonzi has publicly made it clear that he wanted out of Sevilla. The player confirmed that he had a falling out with manager Eduardo Berizzo in the 3-3 draw with Liverpool and has since not featured for Los Hispalenses.

Everton was another club linked with the 28-year-old; however, Arsenal appears to have beaten the Toffees to the deal. Gooners should take this report by El Gol with a pinch of salt though, as they are not the most reliable source.

Wenger’s side will be in action in the league on Wednesday. The club, sixth in the table, travels to West Ham in hope of ending their two-game winless run.
