About Supercopa Uruguaya
Supercopa Uruguaya History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
The Supercopa Uruguaya is an annual club football competition hosted by the Asociación de Fútbol Uruguayo. It was launched in 2018 and has been used as a way to kick off all seasons in Uruguayan football.
Over the years, the Supercopa Uruguaya has featured the winners of the Campeonato Uruguayo and the champions of the Torneo Intermedio, but the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF in Spanish) decided to have the winners of the Copa Uruguaya replacing the Intermedio winners. The change was made to give other teams a chance to fight for this title. If the same team won both competitions, then the runner-up of the Copa Uruguaya would be invited to take one of the spots.
The game is played at a neutral venue, with penalties being used as a tiebreaker in the event of a draw after 90 minutes.
The Supercopa Uruguaya has been available for fans to watch via VTV Plus in Uruguay, while South American football fans may also stream the competition on Star+, who signed a deal with the AUF to stream the annual clash until 2026.
