About Audi Cup
History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
The Audi Cup was a two-day association football tournament hosted by Bundesliga club Bayern Munich. The biennial pre-season tournament featured four teams, including the Bavarians, and was played at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany. The competition replaced the Franz-Beckenbauer-Cup in 2009 in honor of car manufacturer Audi AG. AC Milan, Real Madrid, Fenerbahce, Boca Juniors, Manchester City, Liverpool, Sao Paolo, Napoli, Manchester United, and Internacional were among the top clubs to have participated in this invitational tournament. The competition had the format of any regular knockout competition. Winners of each of the two games on Matchday 1 progressed to the final and contest for the Audi Cup. The two losing teams featured in a third-place playoff. The tournament took place before the Bundesliga season commenced.
