The Argentinian decided to cut their vacations short by four days. Barcelona's first official game is against Sevilla on August 11.

Barcelona did not enjoy a great tour around the United States as they lost against Manchester United and Chelsea in the International Champions Cup while beating L.A. Galaxy. That could have been the reason for Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano deciding to rejoin the team four days ahead of schedule.

Both Argentinian players were given an extended vacation due to their participation with Argentina in the Copa America right after the Champions League final. La Albiceleste fell against Chile in the final and Messi took a lot of criticism for it. The Argentinian star was even criticized by Diego Armando Maradona.

Besides that, Messi has made the most out of his time off from the pitch, traveling and enjoying life with his son and his girlfriend. The Argentinian star might be ready to make his debut against Fiorentina in a special game of the International Champions Cup in Italy on Sunday. If Luis Enrique decides to give him more time off, La Pulga could be scheduled to play against Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup on August 11.

Messi was training hard with his son over the break

Javier Mascherano and his Argentinian teammate underwent medical exams this morning before they begin playing. The team still has one more pre-season game left on August 2 against Fiorentina in Italy and their official games will begin on August 8 against Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup.

The two players from La Albiceleste were not the only ones to show up for medical exams today. Neymar, Dani Alves and Ter Stegen were also bright and early at Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper for their routine medical tests. The decision of Messi and Mascherano to return early was theirs and not from the club.
