Valencia vs Sporting Gijón Preview

Thursday February 9 2012,
Tags: Valencia, Sporting Gijon, La Liga
Struggling Valencia are still in search of their first La Liga victory in 2012. Can they find it at home to Sporting Gijon this weekend?
As weeks go by, it seems like Los Che will do just enough to maintain the third and last automatic UEFA Champions League spot in La Liga. Chances to considerably widen the gap against fourth-placed Levante have been wasted. Valencia have picked up only 4 points from their previous 5 matches.

Following their Copa del Rey exit, Valencia can focus on hitting higher standards in the Spanish Primera Division. However, underdogs Sporting Gijon could complicate things for Los Che. This fact must be underlined: Valencia’s last home match in La Liga ended in a shocking defeat to Real Sociedad.

Sporting Gijón vs Real Madrid Report

Real Madrid successfully passed their tricky test away to Sporting Gijon tonight. Angel Di Maria, Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo provided the goals.
Real Madrid started slowly at the dislike of the home crowd. Cristiano Ronaldo, however, found his foot early in the game despite receiving a knock in the initial stages.

The Portuguese winger eventually inspired Los Blancos’ attacks down the flanks with the help of Marcelo and Di Maria. It’s no wonder if these three players ended up settling the score line.

The referee experienced a busy night, especially in the first half, as Eguren, Callejon, David Barral, Trejo and Mate Bilic all entered into the book.

Two minutes after the half-hour mark, Higuain banged in a fierce shot which got ruled out for offside.

Real Madrid will enter El Molinon on Saturday night as La Liga leaders. Could Sporting Gijon cause an upset to Mourinho’s in-form Blancos?
Sporting Gijon will have home advantage but it remains to be seen how well they’ll use it. They’ve already lost 13 points at El Molinon in 7 matches.

Recently in La Liga, they suffered a thumping 4-0 defeat away to Levante. However, their last home encounter turned out positively thanks to a 2-1 victory over Getafe.

Sporting Gijón vs Barcelona Report

Sunday October 2 2011,
Tags: Sporting Gijon, Barcelona, Adriano
Barcelona imposed themselves 1-0 at El Molinon against Sporting Gijon.
Pedro Rodriguez, Lionel Messi and David Villa led the attack while Thiago Alcantara was offered a place alongside Xavi and Sergio Busquets in midfield. Mascherano, Daniel Alves, Eric Abidal and Adriano completed Pep Guardiola’s starting XI. Sporting Gijon, meanwhile, had Barral upfront in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Thankfully for Barcelona fans, it didn’t take so long before the visitors went in front. Midfield maestro Xavi produced a great shot which hit the post but defender Adriano was there to justify the Spaniard’s effort. A few minutes after the break, Abidal and Pedro made way for Maxwell and Gerard Pique respectively.

Sporting Gijón vs Barcelona Preview

Saturday October 1 2011,
Tags: Sporting Gijon, Barcelona, La Liga
Barcelona’s last days have been almost perfect, with ten goals scored in their last two matches. They are now about to face Sporting Gijon, who may not be as harmless as one may think.
Coach Pep Guardiola might have been right to remind his team’s followers that Los Cules often “find it hard to beat Sporting because they defend very well and have an intense ground where their fans help them a lot.” There are however strange details that put into question the tightness of Gijon’s defence.

In fact, the Rojiblancos do not only occupy the bottom place; they have also conceded nine goals in only five games. This gives them a goal difference of minus seven, having scored only two league goals this season. Certainly there is nothing impressive in these quick facts. Still, it is obvious that their bad statistics will not necessary let them be supressed by third place Barca.

Mourinho Dejected After Defeat Against Sporting Gijon

Saturday April 2 2011,
Tags: Jose Mourinho, Sporting Gijon, Real Madrid, La Liga
Jose Mourinho saw his Real Madrid team end their 100% home record this season when Sporting Gijon achieved a shock 1-0 win at the Bernebeu earlier today.
Jose Mourinho has literally given up on capturing the Spanish League title after seeing his side slump to their first home defeat of the season against lowly Sporting Gijon. Gijon's victory also effectively ended Mourinho's 9-Years unbeaten home record that has gained him praises and fans over that period of time.

We will need to go back to February 23, 2002 to remind the Special One of his last domestic home defeat. Being in charge of FC Porto, Jose Mourinho saw Beira Mar defeat his team in a tightly contested match. However, he never lost a single game at home after that- despite being in charge of four different clubs, although the record has finally been put to bed by Sporting Gijon today.

Real Madrid vs Sporting Gijon: Mourinho Sets Gijon Test Above Tottenham Challenge

Saturday April 2 2011,
Tags: Jose Mourinho, Gonzalo Higuain, Barcelona, Villarreal
Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Marcelo will all miss the Real Madrid vs Sporting Gijon match, but Jose Mourinho will still play his cards in a game that is ‘more decisive than the Tottenham match’.
Real Madrid are presently in a delicate situation, as their chances of winning La Liga title are on the line. A good display today and afterward could reward them with the final price, while lack of efficiency and tactical management could condemn them to another disappointing league season. Probably, momentum could be lost, and it is through awareness of the negative outcomes that could well take over that Coach Mourinho has declared this game as a highly crucial one, compared to Los Blancos’ next challenge at European level in midweek.

"Saturday's match against Sporting (Gijon) is more decisive than next week's against Tottenham (Hotspur in the UEFA Champions League), because the latter is decided over two legs,” he was quoted saying by RealMadrid.com on Friday. “If we don't win the first (against Spurs), we still have a chance in the second.”

Real Madrid vs Sporting Gijon: A Crucial Moment For Los Blancos

With La Liga’s strike plan cancelled, the Real Madrid vs Sporting Gijon match is scheduled to take place on April 2. Yet, other than the excitement ahead of the game, much work is awaiting Los Blancos.
There were sensations that games in La Liga would be pushed back by a week after the LFP decided to suspend Day 30 following a TV dispute between them and the government. The association’s postponement threats were however decimated yesterday when a Madrid court ordered the league to continue with its normal agenda—due to a valid complaint presented by six clubs of the Primera Division.

The speculations are now over, and the focus has drifted on the efforts that each of the two leading giants in La Liga need to make in search of the league title this season. Real Madrid currently lie in second position with 73 points, but they are not too far away from defending champions FC Barcelona—who are 5 points above. Only 27 possible points can be caught by both teams in the remainder of the Spanish League, and the nine upcoming match-days promise to be full of suspense.

Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola refused to critizise his player's performances despite being held to a draw with lowly Sporting Gijon.
Barcelona were on a run of 16 consecutive league victories in the La Liga and this result has successfully ended that run. It also gives Real Madrid a chance to cut the gap between them to five points.

However, Guardiola refused to blame his players and even praised them for their efforts in fighting back from a goal down.

"We did not win but we tried everything to achieve it," the former Barca and Spain midfielder, who this week extended his contract until the end of next season, told a news conference.

The official time for the contract extension has been set to 13:30 CET. According to Zubizarreta, finding a peaceful period to tackle this issue was the reason behind the February 22 date.

Two days before, Barcelona will be playing Athletic Bilbao in La Liga and their following match is set to take place 5 days later. Speaking to Barca’s official club website, the sporting director declared:

“We have spoken with Pep and we believe that it will be a quiet week and so it also fits in with president Rosell’s schedule. For Guardiola and for us, it has always been important to sit down and talk calmly and reflect on things.

Sporting Gijon vs Real Madrid: Gijon Coach Slams “Hateful Villain” Jose Mourinho

Saturday November 13 2010,
Tags: Sporting Gijon, Real Madrid, La Liga, Jose Mourinho, Manuel Preciado
Real Madrid could suffer under more pressure away to Sporting Gijon as the coach of the home side is ready to pour his wrath on Jose Mourinho – who won’t feature due to suspension, anyways.
Manuel Preciado’s side had been criticized by Jose Mourinho earlier this season following their 1-0 defeat to Barcelona. The Real Madrid boss said of Sporting Gijon that they were the kind of teams that offer La Liga title to the Catalans. Now Coach Preciado has hit back at Mourinho’s comments ahead of Sunday night’s Sporting Gijon vs Real Madrid match.

“I don’t like [Jose] Mourinho and I’m going to tell him that to his face. Who the hell is this guy?” Preciado stated.

“He claimed that we gave away the match at the Camp Nou. And he has repeated that again! Even if he says it’s a joke, then it’s a very bad one.

Gijon seat in the second half of La Liga table and in 12th precisely.

They’ve picked up as much as 10 defeats in the league but Real Madrid will certainly not consider this factor as a reason to be over confident and complacent ahead of the match.

Los Blancos will remember how much they struggled at the Estadio Municipal El Molinon earlier in the first part of La Liga campaign. They were held to a goalless draw and thus dropped two precious points in the title race.

Sporting Gijon – Prepared for the show?

Sporting Gijon do not have more than 24 points, and allowing theirselves to be controlled by Barcelona this weekend could bring them disastrous effects. The mid-table side was only capable of stealing a single victory in its last 7 league meetings, and such a negative fact is far from raising Gijon’s chances of triumphing over the league leaders.

Sporting were beaten 3-0 in the opening day of La Liga at the Camp Nou, and the worse thing was that in addition to their disgracing result, they were pounded by a large number of Barcelona fans who accused them of being illegally aggressive during the encounter.
