After months of negotiations to extend his contract, Luis Enrique announced his decision to call it quits.

After Wednesday's 6-1 blowout against Sporting Gijón, Luis Enrique dropped a bomb no one at Can Barça expected. The current Blaugrana boss has revealed he will not continue with the team when his contract expires this summer.

The 46-year old coach informed his players about his decision moments after the game concluded, and went on to reveal the reasons why he will not return with Los Culés next season.

"It's a tough decision, but it's a well-thought one. I won't be at Barcelona next season, I need to rest," Luis Enrique stated.

The outgoing manager had already hinted his possible departure by the end of the season in a meeting back in July.

"I spoke to Fernández and Soler before the season started, and I told them that I was thinking about not extending my contract. They asked me to take my time, so I wouldn't rush into things. The time has come to announce my decision,"

The two-time La Liga winner with Los Blaugranas ruled out the possibility of throwing in the towel for the rest of the season, since the team can still win all tournaments they're involved in.

"We still have three thrilling months to come. We're in a complicated situation, especially in one competition, but if things go our way we can bounce back. I will devote myself 100% to make things happen in the upcoming months," Luis Enrique concluded.
