The Manchester United midfielder made it public that he would not accept being used as a substitute for England. Roy Hodgson made not of that and did not include Carrick in his Euro 2012 squad.
Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick decided that he did not want to travel to Euro 2012 if he was going to have to watch from the sidelines. The English Football Association announced that Carrick had notified them a few months back about not wanting to be a squad player.

The English midfielder felt that at this point in his career he did not want to be used as an option off the bench. When new England boss Roy Hodgson announced his Euro 2012 squad, many were left surprised that Carrick was not on the list, but Jordan Henderson made the cut for the stand-by list.

Although Carrick has not officially retired from the English squad, he may well have 'burnt' his bridges with these comments.

What are Manchester United's chances of overcoming Athletic Bilbao's threat?

Manchester United did just enough to edge past Ajax. They will begin their Last 16 challenge at Old Trafford where they last lost 2-1 in the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League.
Since the past several years now, Sir Alex Ferguson and his players haven’t played any other team than Real Madrid, Barcelona or Villarreal when it comes to Spanish oppositions. On Thursday, they’ll be up against Bilbao at Old Trafford.

Manchester United vs. Athletic Bilbao is one of the eight Round of 16 first leg ties to take place on March 8. The Red Devils are entering this UEFA Europa League encounter as pure favourites. In truth, however, they are not guaranteed to triumph analytically.

Athletic Bilbao’s prolific goal scorer, Fernando Llorente, is fully aware of Manchester United’s greatness. However, the Spaniard isn’t ruling his team’s chances at all. According to EP, he admitted:

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick declares title race wide open

Monday December 19 2011,
Tags: Michael Carrick, Manchester United
It was not so long ago many fans and pundits were describing this season’s Premier League title race a one horse race.
Seven days ago, Manchester City held a five point lead at the top of the table, and their season opening unbeaten streak stood at 14 games.

City had scored 48 goals during that spell, including a 6-1 mauling of defending champions Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The City juggernaut had three of the Premier League’s top 10 goal scorers in Sergio Aguero (11 league goals), Edin Dzeko (10) and Mario Balotelli (8). The Citizens also boast England’s number 1 goalkeeper, and an embarrassment of depth and resources in every department.

Just when it seemed City were set to pull away from the chasing pack, they suffered their first setback last Monday when Chelsea produced a 2-1 win over City at Stamford Bridge.

Man United vs Crystal Palace: Youngsters tipped to make Red Devils proud

Wednesday November 30 2011,
Tags: Michael Carrick, Patrice Evra, Paul Pogba
Manchester United could follow Liverpool and Manchester City in the semi-finals of the English Carling Cup. Only an upset will condemn the Red Devils to an exit like Chelsea and Arsenal.
Alex Ferguson will feature a weakened side against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford tonight. Paul Pogba, Ezekiel Fryers and Michael Keane are all expected to play as Manchester United are already working on their next generation of players.

Patrice Evra, who appreciates the club’s youth policy, was quoted as saying on the club’s official website:

“This is a big chance for them, but they have to be careful because Sir Alex gives you an opportunity, and if you let him down, it’s difficult to get another one.

“I’m really proud and pleased because when you see these young players in action, you know United’s future is bright.

Leeds vs Manchester United: Visitors poised to overcome Leeds upset

Tuesday September 20 2011,
Tags: Michael Carrick
Manchester United don’t want to be fooled by the rather small size of Leeds on paper. The Red Devils know what it means to lose to tonight’s hosts…
This season, winning the Carling Cup is a task written on Manchester United’s to-do list. With rivals Liverpool also showing their intent to triumph, the competition has become even more interesting. Michael Carrick even believes that Ferguson will choose experience over youth freshness for Tuesday night’s League Cup match away to Leeds.

The midfielder, who missed Manchester United’s 1-0 shocking defeat to Leeds in January 2010, is hoping to find favor in Fergie’s sight. He was quoted as saying on Man United’s official website:

“We are well aware of what Leeds means. [It’s a big game] because of the fans and the rivalry over the years. I am sure the manager will pick a strong team.

Barca-United Final: Predicting The Line-Up Of Sir Alex's Men

Predicting a team's line-up may be easy at times but when they go against Barcelona, the whole mentality of team selection is brought to a new dimension. Live Soccer TV previews.

Cristiano Ronaldo was always regarded as a winger during his time at Old Trafford. Not to say that he can't fit into the centre forward position but his best years at United saw him freely roaming and switching flanks as a genuine out and out winger. But it was that semi final triumph against Arsenal that persuaded Sir Alex after all. Ronaldo was employed in the wings and it weaved magic as United swept off the Gunners to march into the final at Rome. But boy did all go wrong at the Stadio Olimpico.

Basically, teams have always altered their formation while going against the mighty Catalans. 'Defensive' or maybe 'Negative Tactics' were probably the cliche's during build up to a game against Barcelona.  Real Madrid certainly stopped the Catalans at the Mestalla not so long ago.  But considering what happened when they clashed at the Nou Camp- with the situation not allowing Jose Mourinho's men to set-up defensively is raising up doubts over whether a team should go defensive against Barcelona.

Manchester United Vs Schalke: Complacency Could Blow Us Up - Carrick

Tuesday May 3 2011,
Tags: Michael Carrick
Micheal Carrick is adamant that even a 2-0 lead could be overturned if complacency creeps into their game tonight.
Manchester United currently have a 2-0 lead from the first leg and things are looking pretty good for Sir Alex's men to book a final date against Barcelona at Wembley. However, the 2nd leg at Old Trafford is yet to be played and Michael Carrick is imminently cautious about it.

The English midfielder has warned his teammates from letting complacency influence their style of play because Schalke do have what it takes succeed away from home. Remember San Siro?

“It does come into your mind the fact you are two goals up. But it is dangerous to go into a game relying on those two goals to get you through.

Manchester United Vs Arsenal: 'Desperate' Carrick Wants To Win The FA Cup This Season

Thursday March 10 2011,
Tags: Michael Carrick
Michael Carrick has rallied his fellow teammates ahead of Saturday's FA Cup Quarter-final clash by admitting that he is really 'desperate' to win the FA Cup with United this season
Manchester United and Arsenal have both suffered disappointments over the last week with United losing to Chelsea and Liverpool while the Gunners suffered heartbreak when they were knocked-out of the Champions League by Barcelona in midweek.

There will be an air of revenge in Old Trafford as both teams seek to bounce back quickly from their setbacks and both teams would know that a win would not only put them in the semi finals, but it will also give them a psychological edge as Arsenal and United also face each other in the title race for the Premier League.

Liverpool Vs Manchester United: We Have To Bounce Back - Carrick

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has admitted that United will really need to buck up and bounce back from the defeat against Chelsea when they visit Liverpool this Sunday.
The Red Devils lost only their second league game of the season against Chelsea last Tuesday. With a dangerous trip to Anfield coming up this Sunday, Michael Carrick believes that another defeat is simply unaffordable for Manchester United.

"At the moment we feel pretty down, but we can move on quickly; we have to," the midfielder told MUTV.

"We're used to doing that and we're normally good at that, so hopefully we can bounce back again.

"We have to get rid of this game, forget about it and move on. It's obviously a huge game on Sunday and we'll be ready for that. We have to be.
