The reigning champions resume their title defense on Saturday, taking on Nantes in a repeat of the Trophée des Champions, but that isn't the only interesting fixture set to take place.

Another round is upon us in Ligue 1 as the French top-flight gears up for Matchweek 6 of the 2022/23 season. All eyes will, once again, be on PSG as the defending champions look to maintain their march towards another league crown; however, that is not the only interesting fixture taking place this weekend.

Unlike in previous rounds, the action does not get underway on Friday this time around. Instead, the first three games are scheduled for Saturday, with the remaining seven being penciled in for Sunday in an all-weekend affair.

Additionally, all the teams competing in Europe will have one eye on the midweek as the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Europa Conference League all return straight after the weekend, meaning PSG, Marseille, Monaco, Rennes, and Nice will all be called into action.

With that in mind, which team will drop points and which sides will secure the precious win this round? Here's everything you need to know about Matchweek 6.

Top games to watch in Matchweek 6 in Ligue 1

Nantes vs PSG

The defending champions will take to the field in one of Saturday's three fixtures, with this tie wrapping up the action on that day. Galtier's side have begun the season extremely well and will look to maintain their form. Unfortunately, the defending champions no longer boast a perfect record, having drawn 1-1 at home to Monaco over the weekend. Fortunately, Neymar and Co. returned to winning ways in their midweek trip to Toulouse, beating them 3-0, with the aforementioned Brazilian getting on the scoresheet once again.

As for the opposition, this will be their opportunity to get revenge for their recent Trophée des Champions showdown, which Nantes lost horribly. Antoine Kombouaré's men were thrashed 4-0 in that showdown in Tel Aviv and will need an inch-perfect performance in order to get something against the league leaders. Unfortunately, the hosts haven't enjoyed the best of starts to the campaign, winning only once in their opening five games. Will Nantes get their second victory of the season come Saturday? Tune in to find out.

Montpellier vs Lille

Next up on our list of Ligue 1 fixtures to watch this round is Montpellier vs Lille as the visitors look to get into rhythm after a less-than-ideal start to the campaign. Everything kicked off well for Les Dogues, beating Auxerre 4-1 in their opening game. However, since then, a 1-1 draw with Nantes, a 7-1 thrashing to PSG, and a 2-1 loss to Nice followed. As a result, the visitors find themselves in eighth with seven points out of a possible 15. Will they secure an additional three points this weekend?

Montpellier will do everything in their power to prevent this from occurring. The home side have fared somewhat better in comparison this season, winning three games to the visitors' two. As a result, La Paillade sit in fifth with nine points, two more than Lille. Additionally, unlike the opposition, Olivier Dall'Oglio's side enter this clash on the back of a win, having beaten Ajaccio 2-0 in their most recent outing.

Nice vs Monaco

And finally, we have Sunday's showdown at the Allianz Riviera. Nice will be the home side as they look to rejuvenate their campaign, having failed to win all but one of their opening five games. In fact, their only win of the season came in their most recent outing, a 2-1 victory away to Lille on Wednesday. Back-to-back triumphs would be ideal but that could be tricky for the hosts.

Monaco, meanwhile, sit level on points with Nice, boasting an identical record so far. However, unlike Nice, the Monégasques sealed their only win of the season in Matchweek 1 and are yet to triumph since, drawing two and losing two. Last weekend, the visitors pulled off an impressive 1-1 draw away to PSG but they followed that result up with a 4-2 loss at home to Troyes. This is a must-win game for Monaco.
