Sick and tired of the English Premier League? Can’t wait until another exciting European league resumes play? If so, then you are in luck, as La Liga returns to action starting this Friday – January 6.
The first game in this round takes place in Catalonia, but it’s not Barcelona who will be in action. Instead, Espanyol will host Deportivo La Coruna. The following day, Saturday, is when the excitement commences.
Four of the top six clubs – Real Madrid, Sevilla, Real Sociedad, and Atletico Madrid – will be in action on the first day of the upcoming weekend, with the league leaders going first. Los Blancos face an early Saturday kick-off with Granada, but their excellent form and home advantage should see them sweep past their opponents.
Atletico, in dire need of a return to form, travel to Eibar needing nothing short of victory in order to climb out of sixth spot. Above Los Rojiblancos sit fifth-placed Real Sociedad, who take on third-placed Sevilla in what will hopefully be a thrilling game.
Defending champions Barcelona won’t be in action until Sunday. Having lost their first game of this year – defeated 2-1 in the Copa del Rey by Athletic Bilbao – the Blaugrana will be keen on victory. Unfortunately, three points won’t come easily, as they will have to travel to Villarreal.
