The first round of matches kicked off in a pretty common fashion for the top two bigwigs in La Liga- Real Madrid walloped Real Sociedad 3-0 while Barcelona cruised to a 6-2 victory over Real Betis. Atletico, the third best team in La Liga last season, settled for a one-all draw with Alaves. Las Palmas then pulled the shock of the weekend by thumping Valencia 4-2. Will the second round of matches pull more surprises, will there be disappointments? Here is when to follow these matches live:

Matchday 2: Gareth Bale eyes La Liga milestone
All eyes will be on the world’s second-most expensive footballer Gareth Bale. The Real Madrid winger has scored 49 league goals for the Spanish outfit since making his £85m move from Spurs to the Santiago Bernabeu back in 2013. He also scored a brace in Los Blancos’ 3-0 win over Sociedad last weekend.
Star winger Cristiano Ronldo has also been trending since Thursday night. The Portugal international beat his Los Blancos team mate Gareth Bale and Atletico Madrid rival Antoine Griezmann to win the UEFA Best Player of the Year award after steering Real Madrid to Champions League glory and Portugal to their first ever Euro triumph. He is expected to return to action against Celta Vigo this weekend after missing the pre-season, UEFA Super Cup clash and the opening Liga match last weekend due to a knee injury sustained in the finals of the European Championship in France.

Matchday 2: Social media buzz
Gareth Bale has been trending for the better part of this week thanks to his brace against Sociedad, and not forgetting his excellent performance in the absence of star forward Cristiano Ronaldo. The Welshman has been tipped to shine even more this weekend as Real Madrid play their first home league game of the new season.
