Sporting Intelligence, in association with ESPN The Magazine, have done a survey finding out the highest sports teams' salaries in the year of 2014. Global Sports Salaries Survey (GSSS) ranks teams from the highest salaries given, aiming to find out the average first team salary pay per player.

And where do European football's elite rank on this list.

English heavyweights and 2011-2012 Premier League champions Manchester City rank number one on the list for the highest paid salaries, with an whooping average of £5.3m, or £102,653 per week salary per player. The next football teams on the list are Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid and Barcelona, at fourth and fifth, respectively. The El Clasico duos clench these spots with a £4,993,393 (for Real Madrid) and a £4,901,327 (for Barcelona) average annual salary.

There are five English Premier League teams make the top 20 with David Moyes' Manchester United at eighth spot (£4.3m annually), Jose Mourinho's Chelsea at 10th (nearly £4m annually), and Arsene Wenger's Arsenal at 11th (£3.9m annually per man per year).
