Manchester United and Liverpool will lock horns in what is expected to be a fiercely-contested Premier League clash at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Team News

Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson will be unable to count with the services of a host of players, including Anders Lindegaard and Phil Jones, both with ankle injuries, and Michael Owen, with a thigh problem. Other players who have been discarded for the clash are Tom Cleverley and Portuguese midfielder Nani.

Ferguson will likely provide Javier Hernandez with a starting role, after the Mexican international made a real impact when he entered the field against Chelsea last week, and ended up scoring United's late equaliser. Veteran midfielder Paul Scholes also played a key role in United's revival at Stamford Bridge and could start the game from the kick-off.

Where else to kick off this weekend’s English Premier League drama but at Old Trafford where Manchester United and Liverpool are set to fire bombs?

Wayne Rooney leads Manchester United's chase for the EPL title.Manchester United vs Liverpool

The Red Devils earned a point in controversial fashion last Sunday. Two crucial penalty decisions went in their favor as Chelsea dropped a 3-0 lead and thus two precious points at the Bridge.

Manchester United are now two points behind league leaders Manchester City. Ferguson’s men could temporarily claim the top spot but will Liverpool allow them to do so?

The Merseyside Reds have a pretty good record against Manchester United so they can confidently fancy their chances of winning. Liverpool should find pride, favor and hope in the following: their FA Cup triumph over Man United in January, Man City’s 6-1 humiliation of the Red Devils at Old Trafford and Blackburn Rovers’ 3-2 giant-killing at the same venue back in December.

Chelsea 3-3 United: Reflections on the Match

Monday February 6 2012,
Tags: Chelsea, Manchester United
London clubs seemingly enjoy squandering leads- Arsenal has done it quite a few times in the past and Chelsea repeated the feat on Sunday.
Newcastle 0-4 Arsenal- this is a score-line that will give quite a few jitters to an Arsenal fan. This was the score at half-time of the match last season. The final score was 4-4. Chelsea produced a good performance against United for the most part. 57 minutes had gone by at Stamford Bridge- Chelsea led 3-0.

Yet, Howard Webb offered United a life-line. Two soft spot-kicks later, Chelsea was staring at a point from a game where they surely had three points secured before the hour mark. There was almost a sense of cliché to the United comeback when Javier Hernandez equalized in the 84th minute.

Chelsea vs Manchester United: Five tips the Red Devils should follow to win at Stamford Bridge

Saturday February 4 2012,
Tags: Chelsea, Manchester United, English Premier League
Sir Alex Ferguson's men haven't won at Stamford Bridge in a decade. Here are some tips they should follow to reverse this statistic.
The Red Devils may have had the upper hand over their rivals at Stamford Bridge over the years, but this has changed dramatically over the last decade as since the 2002-03 Premier League season Sir Alex Ferguson's side haven't won a single game at the venue after nine attempts.

Chelsea have been dominant at the Bridge, after having obtained six wins and three draws over United during this period in official Premier League games.

However, with three defeats in eleven home games this season, beating Chelsea at the Bridge may not be impossible any more. United have barely lost a single away game this season, and if they manage to find gaps in the leaky Chelsea defence they are more than capable of returning to Old Trafford with the three points.

Chelsea is currently on a bad patch in the league while United is flying high and is level on points with City at the top of the table.
United has won three Premier League games in a row- these three wins have placed the drubbing they received in the hands of Newcastle somewhat away from everyone’s minds. However, in that match, each of United’s weaknesses was exposed terribly. Since then United has beaten Bolton, Stoke and Arsenal.

The only blot in United’s copy book recently has been a 1-2 loss to Liverpool. Chelsea has recently had more blots than Andre Villas Boas can really deal with. Chelsea has drawn their previous two games in the Premier League. They drew their game against Swansea.

Thursday February 2 2012,
Tags: Manchester United
A 2-0 win over Stoke brought United level on terms with City in the title race- the only competition they realistically have a chance to win this season.
A top side always looks to ensure wins in two domestic competitions. In England, there are three- the Premier League, FA Cup and Carling Cup. The Premier League and FA Cup reign over the Carling Cup in terms of importance. This season, United is not in the Carling Cup or FA Cup.

As the ball sailed past David De Gea in the dying minutes in the FA Cup, United fans knew that dreams of a cup victory would have to be pushed back at-least up to mid 2013. De Gea must have felt his own dreams of becoming a hero at United sink away with his side’s cup dreams.

Tags: Manchester United, Liverpool
Liverpool is on a high after reaching the Carling Cup final and will have their sights set on knocking out their major rivals Manchester United from England’s other cup competition.
Liverpool claimed a major scalp by knocking Manchester City out of the Carling Cup. They achieved the feat over two legs. In the first leg at the Etihad Stadium, Kenny Dalglish’s side showed great determination. City kept knocking on the door throughout the match but Liverpool defended with great strength and kept them out. A Steven Gerrard penalty saw them win the game.

In the second leg, Liverpool started well and tried to defend their lead. In the second half, City took a 2-1 lead and had the tie wrapped up. Liverpool nonetheless is a gritty team in their own backyard and scored an equalizer via a man who has been the hero on the field and a villain off it multiple times in his career, Craig Bellamy. They won the tie, 3-2, on aggregate.
