Wayne Rooney leads Manchester United's chase for the EPL title.Manchester United vs Liverpool

The Red Devils earned a point in controversial fashion last Sunday. Two crucial penalty decisions went in their favor as Chelsea dropped a 3-0 lead and thus two precious points at the Bridge.

Manchester United are now two points behind league leaders Manchester City. Ferguson’s men could temporarily claim the top spot but will Liverpool allow them to do so?

The Merseyside Reds have a pretty good record against Manchester United so they can confidently fancy their chances of winning. Liverpool should find pride, favor and hope in the following: their FA Cup triumph over Man United in January, Man City’s 6-1 humiliation of the Red Devils at Old Trafford and Blackburn Rovers’ 3-2 giant-killing at the same venue back in December.

32 minutes into the match between Arsenal and Blackburn, Morten Gamst Pedersen scored a stunning goal. Arsenal had conceded an equalizer for what felt like the millionth time in living memory.
Arsenal’s poor form in recent matches ensured that everyone came into the match low on confidence. Four games had gone by with no wins. The match against Manchester United caused one of the most public humiliations of Arsene Wenger in recent years. The fans booed the coach they had stood by for many a barren season.

Wenger had really not committed any crime for the treatment he received. He just took off Alex Oxlade Chamberlain when Arsenal seemed to be the side more likely to grab a match-winner against United. As Chamberlain walked off the pitch and Andrei Arshavin came on, the Emirates seemed to be simmering. Arsenal eventually lost the game.

Their attacks lacked the bite required to score goals. The result left Arsenal in seventh, five points behind fourth placed Chelsea.

Arsenal next takes on another team fighting for survival. Blackburn sits eighteenth in the table and has collected only 18 points this season. Arsenal, however, struggles against teams that are fighting for relegation. Arsenal drops too many points against sides such as Blackburn- sides that take a very physical approach to the game unlike Wenger’s side.

The substitution caused great uproar in the stands as it did on the pitch. Robin Van Persie defied his coach’s decision and the cameras caught him ‘in the moment’. Liverpool set the pace for other Premier League clubs in admirable fashion on Friday night although another race row involving Oldham’s Tom somewhat tarnished the game.

Liverpool have kicked off the FA Cup in great fashion. The Merseyside Reds overcame the pressure of playing the first fixture of this year’s FA Cup competition. Oldham Athletic never looked dangerous anyways, until they tried to prove otherwise on the pitch. Inside the 28th minute, Robbie Simpson stunned Pepe Reina with an incredible shot from long range which hit the top right corner of the net.

At that moment, followers of the match perhaps thought that Liverpool – probably distracted by the absence of goal poacher Luis Suarez – would succumb to an upset. However, Kenny Dalglish and his men had other ideas.

The legend rallied his team from the sidelines and the prayers of the anxious home crowd quickly received a response through Craig Bellamy’s equalizer in the 30th minute. Game on!

If Arsene Wenger’s New Year’s resolution involved not blaming referees for defeats, then it did not last two days as the Gunners boss fumed over the dismissal of Johan Djourou during the second half.

Arsenal dominated possession from the outset, and created early chances that were not converted by Theo Walcott and Gervinho.

Gervinho was lively during the opening exchanges, and had a penalty appeal denied when he was brought down by former Gunner Philippe Senderos.
