The following world cup matches will be broadcast live in 3D around the globe. Please view our world cup channels for a listing of the 3D channels in your country. You may be able to enjoy the World Cup 3D experience best in the Cinema - IMAX 3D.
All 64 matches will be produced and delivered in HD by the Host Broadcaster in South Africa. Full HD coverage will be available in each country where the rights-holding broadcaster provides a HD channel. Sony (FIFA Official Partner) will enable 3D broadcast of 25 of the 64 games in cooperation with Fifa. Audience expected to be limited to a few hundred thousand per match, given limited number of consumers with 3D-enabled sets. 3D broadcasts will be available only in territories where the broadcast rights have been established and as well for public-viewing events to publicize the World Cup to maximum number of users.
Fifa, Sony and its service provider production partners (HBS, Telegenic and AMP Visual TV) cannot film more than 25 games because of logistics of moving production facilities across South Africa. They are limited to two complete 3D OB units visiting five venues in Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. The restriction means that only three of the quarter-finals will be produced in 3D. There will be eight 3D camera positions at these matches. All 64 matches will be produced and delivered in HD.
