Liverpool’s much criticized striker Andy Carroll is currently in the news for good reasons. The 23-year-old striker is looking to justify his inclusion in the English national team at UEFA Euro 2012.
Andy Carroll made a good impression of himself on Friday night as his first-half header initiated England’s 3-2 victory over Sweden. The Liverpool striker silenced his critics by proving that he can find the net in the absence of Wayne Rooney.

At some point though, he damaged England’s chances of winning. Admitting his guilt in an interview with Sky Sports, Andy Carroll avowed:

“Obviously, I gave a foul away and they got a goal from that, and it put us on the back foot. We had to work hard to win the game.

“Just to fight back shows the team spirit and we are all sticking together. We got the two goals we needed.”

Against Ukraine, Roy Hodgson is expected to start with Manchester United team mates Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck.

However, there are a few more days left before the Three Lions lock horns with Euro 2012 co-hosts Ukraine and Roy Hodgson has not confirmed his First XI yet. Carroll may have the chance to play a role in England’s final group game.

It will be a decisive clash for the home side. Having started Euro 2012 on a bright note, skipper Andriy Shevchenko and his team mates are looking to finish the business. The Ukrainians are plotting an upset. Meanwhile, a point will suffice the Three Lions.
