The John Terry saga has affected the future of the entire English national team. Fabio Capello is gone, Harry Redknapp’s appointment is perhaps just a matter of time and Euro 2012 is around the corner…

When Capello heard that John Terry had been stripped by the FA from his England captaincy due to the on-going race row involving Anton Ferdinand, he told Rai1:
“I do not agree with that decision. I also talked with the chairman, saying that I think Terry can't be sanctioned until a court, a civil court not the sport one, judge him guilty or not about what he is accused of. That's why I think Terry should keep the captaincy.”
These public comments eventually provoked the FA’s anger. It was understood that Fabio Capello had breached his contract by openly criticizing England’s Football Association. Upon request, the Italian man attended a meeting on Wednesday with general secretary Alex Home and FA chairman David Bernstein. Moments later, the manager’s resignation hit the headlines.
A 2-0 win over Stoke brought United level on terms with City in the title race- the only competition they realistically have a chance to win this season.

A top side always looks to ensure wins in two domestic competitions. In England, there are three- the Premier League, FA Cup and Carling Cup. The Premier League and FA Cup reign over the Carling Cup in terms of importance. This season, United is not in the Carling Cup or FA Cup.
As the ball sailed past David De Gea in the dying minutes in the FA Cup, United fans knew that dreams of a cup victory would have to be pushed back at-least up to mid 2013. De Gea must have felt his own dreams of becoming a hero at United sink away with his side’s cup dreams.

Arsenal will play host to Leeds United in the final game of the FA Cup third round on Monday.

The winner of this game will win a spot in the fourth round where they will play host to Aston Villa.
These two teams met at the third round stage this time last year, when Arsenal needed a replay to get past Leeds.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has not forgotten last year’s battle, and hopes his team bounce back from their most recent outing, a 2-1 Premier League defeat at Fulham.
“We have the experience of last year when we couldn’t beat (Leeds) at home, so let’s hope we can do it this year,” Wenger told BBC Sport. “We just lost a game in the league at Fulham which gave us a lot of regrets, so we want to respond quickly.”
Robin van Persie will be rested for the Gunners, but club legend Thierry Henry is expected to feature after rejoining on loan from the New York Red Bulls.
Gervinho is away representing the Ivory Coast in the African Cup of Nations, while the Gunners will also be without suspended defender Johan Djourou.

A place in the fourth round will be at stake in this game, not to mention scoring points in the ongoing battle for power in Manchester.
United are the defending Premier League champions, but City are the FA Cup holders and currently hold a three point lead over United at the top of the league table. Not to mention, United will be out for revenge for what happened the last time these teams met, a game that ended in a shocking 6-1 win for City at Old Trafford.
In other action, Chelsea will play host to Portsmouth in a rematch of the 2010 FA Cup final.
Other Sunday fixtures are Sheffield Wednesday v West Ham United and Peterborough v Sunderland.

These two teams met at Old Trafford back on November 26th, when a second half Demba Ba penalty snatched a 1-1 draw for Newcastle.
In the other game of the day, Bolton Wanderers will be looking for a win to lift themselves off the bottom of the table when they travel to face Everton.
Last placed Bolton are four points adrift of safety after drawing 1-1 against Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out. Everton can move into the top half of the table with a win or draw, and will enter this fixture looking to extend a four game unbeaten run.

City currently sit top of the Premier League, but are above second placed Manchester United on goal difference alone having played a game less. United slipped up on New Year’s Eve when they were beaten 3-2 at Old Trafford by relegation strugglers Blackburn Rovers.
Sunderland are three points clear of the relegation zone and will be looking to make this their third game without tasting defeat.
In the other game of the day, West Bromwich Albion will play host to Everton with both teams knowing a win will lift them into the top half of the table.
West Brom currently sit in 11th place in the Premier League, while Everton are one place and one point behind them. Both teams will enter this game in good form, and will be looking to extend a three game unbeaten run.

Third placed Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to break into the title race with a victory at Norwich City on Tuesday.

Tottenham have lost only one of their last 14 Premier League games, and with a win over Norwich can move to within seven points of the league lead, having played a game less than joint leaders Manchester United and Manchester City.
Tottenham’s north London rivals Arsenal will also be in action on Tuesday. The Gunners can break into the top four with a win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday.
The Gunners are in good form having won three of their last four games, Wolves will be looking for a win to increase the one point gap between themselves and the relegation zone.
In Tuesday’s other game, Swansea City will play host to Queens Park Rangers with both teams looking to climb away from the relegation zone.
This game will be a clash between two newly promoted clubs who have won respect for their style of play from many fans and pundits. They will now be looking to collect enough points to ensure they stay in the division.
QPR are currently two points clear of the relegation zone after losing their last three games, while Swansea are two points further ahead.

Tottenham Hotspur will play host to Chelsea in a high profile London derby at White Hart Lane on Thursday.

Third placed Tottenham are 10 points behind league leading Manchester City, but have played two games less than both the Citizens and second placed Manchester United.
Fourth placed Chelsea are two points behind Spurs, having played one extra game.
Both teams will enter this battle for third place in good form, with Tottenham having lost one of their last 13 league games, and Chelsea riding a four game unbeaten streak.
Speedy wing duo Aaron Lennon and Gareth Bale both look set to miss out for Tottenham, while strike pair Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe are injury doubts.
Chelsea captain John Terry has recovered from an Achilles injury and is expected to start in defense. With Luis Suarez being banned for eight games this week after being charged with racism, it will be interesting to see if Terry’s focus is impacted by his own ongoing racism charge.
David Luiz is sidelined with a knee injury for the Blues, while fellow Brazilian Ramires is expected to shake off a leg injury in time to play.
In this preview:
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez was handed an eight game ban by the English Football Association yesterday, for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.

There was no video evidence backing the FA’s decision, and Liverpool have complained about the decision seeming to be based largely on the word of Patrice Evra.
While Liverpool have a justified gripe in that regard, it is hard to feel sorry for Suarez, a man who is currently under another investigation for aiming an abusive hand gesture toward Fulham fans, and has previously been convicted for biting an opponent while playing for AFC Ajax. After his infamous handball during the 2010 World Cup, it is also unlikely that Suarez has many sympathizers in Ghana after his latest incident.
Suarez has had his supporters during this case, but some of the people defending him have stooped to a pathetic level while doing so.
Saturday December 17 2011,
Manchester City will play host to in-form Arsenal in one of the most anticipated games of the Premier League season so far.

Fans will want to see if Manchester City can recover from suffering their first league defeat of the season last Monday, and if Arsenal can extend their eight game league unbeaten run.
City’s 2-1 loss at Chelsea cut their lead at the top of the table to two points, and they could kickoff this game in second place if Manchester United beat Queens Park Rangers earlier in the day.
Arsenal have climbed back up to fifth with their run of good form, and a win over City at the Etihad Stadium could see the Gunners re-enter the top four.
Tottenham Hotspur are currently two points ahead of Arsenal, and will be looking for a sixth straight home win when they host Sunderland.
In the other game of the day, Liverpool will get back into the top six if they can win at Aston Villa.
In this preview:
League leading Manchester City will travel to face Chelsea in a top of the table Premier League clash on Monday.

City will be looking for a win to increase their two-point lead at the top of the table, while Chelsea can climb up to third with a win at Stamford Bridge.

Brazilian defender David Luiz is suspended for Chelsea, while Jose Bosingwa looks set to return from injury.
Daniel Sturridge will lead the Chelsea attack, and the young English striker is the Blues’ leading goal scorer in Premier League play this season. England international midfielder Frank Lampard is set to make his 350th Premier League start for Chelsea.
Defensive pair Micah Richards and Aleksandar Kolarov are ruled out with injury for City, while Pablo Zabaleta should be fit enough to play.
In this preview:
Liverpool will be looking to extend an eight game Premier League unbeaten streak when they travel to face struggling Fulham on Monday.

Liverpool can climb into the top six with a win here, and will have had their morale boosted by reaching the Carling Cup semi-finals last week.
Fulham currently sit only two points above the relegation zone, and will enter this game looking to snap a three game winless skid.
Clint Dempsey and Bryan Ruiz look set to return for Fulham, while Damien Duff and Mousa Dembele are injury doubts and will be assessed ahead of kickoff.

Captain Steven Gerrard remains sidelined for Liverpool, while Brazilian midfielder Lucas is out after suffering a season ending knee injury.
Uruguay international striker Luis Suarez will lead the Liverpool attack, and will be looking to add to his tally of seven goals so far this season.

Tuesday November 29 2011,
Manchester United will play host to Crystal Palace in the Carling Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Crystal Palace were the opposition when Sir Alex Ferguson won his first trophy as United manager. Lee Martin scored the winning goal in extra-time to give United a 1990 FA Cup final victory over Palace, and the two clubs have gone on very different paths since that day.
United have won another 36 trophies since that 1990 final, and are currently second in the Premier League. Palace have not been back to any major cup finals since that day, and currently sit mid-table in the Championship table.
Sir Alex Ferguson has already declared his intention to field fresh legs for this game. Young players such as Zeki Fryers, Federico Macheda, Ravel Morrison and Pavel Pogba are expected to start.
Chris Smalling, Antonio Valencia and Darron Gibson could also feature for the Red Devils, after sitting out of the 1-1 weekend draw with Newcastle United in the Premier League.
Star midfielder Darren Ambrose is expected to start for Palace, while Jonathan Williams, Alex Marrow and Lee Hills are sidelined with injury.

League leading Manchester City will travel to face in-form Liverpool in a high profile Premier League clash on Sunday.

City currently hold a four point lead at the top of the table after winning their last seven league games on the bounce. Liverpool have climbed up to seventh after a seven game unbeaten run.
Both teams will have to work hard for what they get in this game, as it will be a meeting of the two best defensive sides in the Premier League. Both these teams have conceded only 11 goals so far this season, and both teams have kept four clean sheets this term.
Swansea City can climb into the top half of the Premier League table with a win over Aston Villa on Sunday.
Swansea are currently four points above the relegation zone after losing 1-0 last weekend to Manchester United, while Villa are two points further ahead and lost 2-0 at Tottenham Hotspur last time out.
In this preview:
Tottenham Hotspur can move up third in the Premier League with a home win over Aston Villa on Monday.

Tottenham will come into this game looking to extend an eight game unbeaten run, while eighth placed Villa have won only one of their last four fixtures.
Tottenham are sweating on the fitness of Dutch playmaker Rafael van der Vaart who is struggling with a hamstring problem. Vedran Corluka is expected to recover from an ankle injury in time to play, while Tom Huddlestone and Michael Dawson are ruled out.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp will return to the Tottenham dugout after recently undergoing heart surgery to unblock his arteries. “I feel fine, I’ve got more energy than I had before, I’ll be on the bench for sure,” Redknapp told BBC Sport.
Striker Gabriel Agbonlahor is struggling with a hamstring injury for Villa and will be assessed ahead of kickoff. Captain Stiliyan Petrov is fit to play, while on-loan midfielder Jermaine Jenas is ineligible to play against his parent club.
In this preview:
The anxiety ahead of the UEFA Euro 2012 finals draw in Kyiv on December 2 has fiercely hit new levels. The prospect of having Spain, England, Portugal and France placed in one group explains this.

Ukraine and Poland have been seeded due to their status as co-hosts. Spain and the Netherlands complete Pot 1. La Roja and the Oranje are currently superior to any other team in the competition in terms of coefficients.
Pot 2 sees Germany, Italy, England and Russia lined up. The Germans boast of showcasing the best football in the world since the past 12 months, the Italians claim to have found their new talisman in the form of Italy’s “problem child” Mario Balotelli, the Three Lions are looking forward to life at Euro 2012 without Wayne Rooney and the Russians want to keep progressing in the world of football.
Frank Lampard captained England for the second time in his career during last Friday’s 1-0 win over reigning world champions Spain.

Lampard performed strongly in a resilient defensive performance from England, and scored the decisive goal when he headed home a loose ball inside the six-yard box.
The England captaincy will now be stripped from Lampard after he has done nothing wrong, and handed back to under-fire John Terry.
The reaction to this from Lampard is sadly uncommon in today’s professional football environment. Lampard will take it like a man, not complain and simply do the job he is asked to do by Three Lions boss Fabio Capello.
Compare this to Michael Ballack’s behavior during the World Cup in 2010. Ballack was unable to participate in the South Africa tournament, so was obviously replaced as captain.
