The UEFA Euro 2012 draw is on this Friday! The groups at the 2012 European Championship will finally be revealed to world football’s anxious public.

The event will kick-off at 6:00pm CET (12:00pm EST, 5:00pm GMT and 7:00pm Ukraine local time) at the Palace of Arts in Kyiv.
The 16 participants will be separated in four groups (from A to D) of four teams. Initially, the finalists will be drawn in four seeding pots. Poland and Ukraine, along with Spain and the Netherlands have been tagged as top seeds.
What is already confirmed is that co-hosts Poland will compete in the tournament as A1 contenders in Group A while Ukraine will vie as D1 contenders in Group D. Here’s a look at the pots again according to the UEFA National Team Coefficient:
In an experimental match, Joachim Loew made many changes to his Germany side, introducing Mario Götze, Christian Träsch, Dennis Aogo and Ron-Robert Zieler.

Thus the Germany line-up looked unusual. The captain of the night was Mario Gomez for Germany. Ukraine came in with a plan to counter-attack and mostly executed good ones. Germany’s game as usual was based on possession. Unfortunately, due to the tendency of the back four to come forward, they were often caught out in the match.
A bit of experience was injected into the team in the second half and Germany came out with a 3-3 draw in a game which was highly entertaining and which either side could have won. Germany had more chances to do so but Ukraine had the better chances to come out on top.
Germany takes on Ukraine in the first of two friendlies in the space of four days.

Joachim Loew had wished to try out a two striker system in one of the two friendlies. However, he might be unable to do so against Ukraine as one of his forwards, Miroslav Klose is out injured. He will seemingly recover in time to play the Dutch though. Another player who has been unable to feature for the national side regularly due to his knack of getting injured or falling ill right after a call-up is Marco Reus.
Unsurprisingly, Reus has the flu. He confirmed that he will not take part in the friendly against Ukraine. He might return for the friendly against the Dutch.
Bayern and Germany captain Philipp Lahm has been given a break for Germany and will not feature in either of the friendlies. Manuel Neuer has been given a break for the match against Ukraine. Bastian Schweinsteiger is out of both friendlies due to the injury he picked in the Champions League against Napoli.
Italy eased past Ukraine 2-0 to give their coach Cesare Prandelli some selection headaches.

Italy recorded a convincing 2-0 win over Ukraine in a friendly in Kiev. Giuseppe Rossi and Alessandro Matri scored the goals for Italy as Cesare Prandelli returns home with two victories in succession.
While the game against Ukraine was just a friendly, the result was testament to Italy's depth. Prandelli fielded a completely different line-up to the one that delivered a 1-0 victory against Slovenia on Friday.
A 4-3-1-2 formation saw Emiliano Viviano in goal behind a defence of Cristian Maggio, Gastaldello, Giorgio Chiellini, and Domenico Criscito. In midfield Nocerino, Claudio Marchisio and Riccardo Montilivio took their place. Alberto Aquilani supplied Gilardino and Giuseppe Rossi as the playmaker.
Italy will play a friendly against Ukraine in Kiev on Tuesday, giving coach Cesare Prandelli a chance to field an alternative XI.

Still brimming with confidence after their 1-0 win in Slovenia, Italy go up against Ukraine in a friendly in Kiev.
Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino will be the captain of the side, and Cesare Prandelli has already named his starting XI.
The formation will be a 4-3-1-2. Emiliano Viviano will be in goal behind a defence of Cristian Maggio, Gastaldello, Giorgio Chiellini, and Domenico Criscito. In midfield Nocerino, Claudio Marchisio and Riccardo Montilivio will take their place. Alberto Aquilani will supply Gilardino and Giuseppe Rossi as the playmaker.
Ukraine vs Italy is one of Tuesday’s top friendly matches, but naughty boy Balotelli won’t have the chance to take part in it. Meanwhile, Gilardino has been offered the captain's armband.

After doing just enough to defeat Slovenia in the Euro 2012 qualifiers last weekend, Cesare Prandelli has allowed himself to make quite a number of changes ahead of the friendly match against Ukraine. The Italy coach will have Maggio, Viviano, Gastaldello, Criscito, Chiellini, Montolivo, Marchisio, Aquilani, Rossi and Gilardino lined up as starters on Tuesday. Among these 11 players, Gilardino has been chosen to as the skipper and this decision from the manager has apparently moved him.
“To carry the captain’s armband against Ukraine tomorrow will be great. It’s a great gift from the national team,” Gilardino told reporters.
UEFA have told Ukraine to ensure that there is no government interference in the country's footballing setup or risk losing hosting rights to Euro2012.
UEFA have issued an ostensibly stark warning to Ukraine over governmental interference in footballing matters. Ukraine could be suspended and see their status as co-hosts of Euro2012 taken away if they do not take appropriate measures by February 4th.
Secretary general Gianni Infantino explained the issue in broad terms, characterizing it as "political interference in the running of Ukrainian football."
Brazil outshine Ukraine 2-0 in England

Brazil beat Ukraine 2-0 in the cold English fall weather. The South Americans displayed magnificent finishing and fluid play to defeat Ukraine.
Manager Mano Menezes has selected a youthful and unbeatable side. Ukraine missed chances in the first half that should have given the lead, but luck was on Brazil’s defensive side. The same cannot be said for their swift and well-executed counter attack.
Brazil expected to maintain winning form against Ukraine

Brazil play Ukraine in England on Monday. The Brazilians have been in excellent form of late, having recently defeated Iran and the USA. The Ukrainians are desperate to improve after drawing Canada 2-2 at home this week.
The South American side look dangerous and are scoring goals for fun these days. Coach Mano Menezes has turned the team around, emphasizing a return to scoring instead of being overly defensive like his predecessor.
Menezes has seen his side perform with style and determination against tough teams like the USA and Iran, and overcome both in the past few months. Brazil will leave any major squad changes to their opponents, who will be mulling over what went wrong in their draw at home against Canada.
Canada frustrate Ukraine with a 2-2 draw

Canada stunned Ukraine with a two goal lead at the half, prompting major changes from the opponents. Ukraine were favourites ahead of the match, but were only able to finish as equals to the North American visitors.
Canada will gain experience against Ukraine...

The home side have the better record going into the match, and are currently ranked 26th while Canada are listed 88th. The visitors will be look to contain Ukraine’s strikers by relying heavily on experienced defenders, and may debut younger players in attack.
Canadian coach Stephen Hart has a chance to see what his side are capable of against strong European competition. The North American side are missing several star players currently playing in MLS. Canada will still have plenty of experienced players on the field, led by captain Paul Stalteri.
Holland’s Ajax will have a big task to overcome on Tuesday, August 17. The Dutch side will play against Ukraine’s Dynamo Kyiv at the Valeriy Lobanovskiy Stadium in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off tie.
Coach Martin Jol, who is currently subject to speculations regarding his managerial post with Ajax, declared his ambition ahead of his team’s match against Dynamo Kyiv. Hopeful about Ajax’s attacking opportunities, the manager stated:
“We will get Suarez back against Kyiv. He is a very important player.
"We will need to be more focused in defense, because if we concede two goals there [at the Valeriy Lobanovskiy Stadium], things will become really difficult.
“We want to progress, we want to try to give them a hard time. But, as always, we will still have to press for a goal ourselves.
There were five goals in all the four play-off matches that were played around Europe last Saturday but none of them came between Greece and Ukraine.
Both countries will meet again on Wednesday evening in Kiev with only one ambition burning in everyone’s heart: qualifying for the finals of the World Cup in South Africa.
Ukraine analysis – almost in dreamland
For the Ukrainians, the pressure has somewhat been taken off after they managed to keep a clean sheet in Greece.
Despite the fact that they were unable to score, the Ukrainians always looked to threaten the Greeks’ defense and a repeat of their performance on Wednesday could see them triumph in the end.
The 2004 European champions are due to meet the runners-up of Group 6, Ukraine, on Saturday for the first part of the two-legged tie.
How Greece qualified into the play-offs
The Greeks just about failed to qualify automatically for the finals of the World Cup in South Africa.
Had it not been because of Andronic’s late equalizer which reduced Greece’s three points to one against Moldova back in September, the former European champions might have reached the promise land already.
Either way, the Greeks held on to their nerves and bounced back with a vital 5-2 victory over Latvia marked by Theofanis Gekas’ astonishing form as he hit four goals in that game.
Group 6 presents an interesting match on Saturday as Ukraine welcome England at the Olympic Stadium.
England have booked their tickets for the World Cup in South Africa but they are ready to pose a threat to the Ukrainians who have a play-off place at stake.
Group 6 – England, Ukraine, (and Croatia) facts:
England protect a 100% record in the qualifiers. This run was especially emphasized earlier in September with an overwhelming 5-1 victory against Croatia.
The most astonishing thing in the qualifiers is that England have scored as much as 31 goals which gives them a plus 26 goal difference as they’ve conceded only five.
Ukraine sit in 3rd place in Group 6 of the UEFA World Cup Qualification phase.
Andorra sit in last place with zero points on 7 games. One better than San Marino of group 3 with null points from 8 games. Ukraine will gladly take these 3 points from this home fixture to get them even with Croatia in second place with 14 points. Group 6 will be a tight finish with both Croatia and Ukraine looking for maximum points in the remaining 4 matches. Group 3 is all but won as England sit atop the group comfortably with a perfect 7-0-0 record thanks new confidence inspired by...
