Frank Lampard will captain England as they travel to face Denmark on Wednesday.
Chelsea midfielder Lampard takes over the armband after Rio Ferdinand and Steven Gerrard both withdrew from the squad with injury. Lampard will be partnered in centre midfield by Arsenal youngster Jack Wilshere.

Wilshere is a bright young prospect, and is expected to be employed as a holding midfielder allowing Lampard to get forward and add to his career tally of 20 goals in 83 games for England. “I hope the option will be for Wilshere to stay in front of the back four, like a centre-back,” England manager Fabio Capello told BBC Sport.

England defender Ashley Cole will make history on Wednesday as he becomes his nation’s most capped fullback, surpassing Kenny Sansom’s record of 86 caps. Joe Hart will receive the start behind Cole in the England goal.

The England attack will be led by Wayne Rooney and Darren Bent. While Rooney is looking to continue his return to form after a disappointing spell, Bent is looking to cement himself as a regular starter for the Three Lions.

England will face some familiar faces on Wednesday, as the Denmark attack will be led by Wilshere’s Arsenal teammate Nicklas Bendtner. “England is a strong team so we have to play well to try and beat them,” Bendtner told Sky Sports.

Arsenal striker Bendtner also suggested dressing room bragging rights are on the line in Copenhagen. “It’s always fun to be able to say we beat you guys and so on and so on. If we lose, I will get it for the remainder of the year,” said Bendtner.

Stoke City goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen will battle it out with Manchester United’s Anders Lindegaard for the start in the Denmark goal.
