The English striker may have to wait until Saturday to make his return, having not featured for the first team for two months.

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has not featured for the Red Devils since sustaining a knee injury back in February, but has now returned to fitness ahead of their FA Cup clash with West Ham.

The English striker last match before his two-month layoff was in the 2-1 loss to Sunderland, but returned from the sidelines for the under-21 side in Monday’s win over Middlesbrough.

The 30-year-old got 60 minutes of playing time under his belt in the victory and came out of the game unscathed, with no concerns or pain in his knee.

However, according to Goal, the Manchester United captain will not be chosen for the starting eleven when Louis Van Gaal’s boys lock horns with West Ham in their FA Cup replay.

As written in their report, their remain worries over the Three Lions forward’s sharpness and will thus look elsewhere for a goalscoring threat in the Boleyn Ground tie.

Nonetheless, Rooney will still likely book his spot on the bench in Wednesday’s game, and could make his return in a late cameo should the club require his experience – or a super sub.

The Red Devils captain, though, will likely make his return to action with the first-team on Saturday in their Premier League clash with Aston Villa.
