Rodgers has spoken about the possibility to have Gerrard on loan during MLS off-season. He has started to take coaching lessons to become a manager after his career as a player.

Steven Gerrard is not ready to say goodbye to the club and the field that has seen him grow for almost 20 years. Liverpool's legendary midfielder is not planning on moving permanently to Los Angeles with his new MLS team, and mostly thinking about a comeback to Liverpool.

"I have always agreed, especially with Jamie (Carragher), that you go a touch early, when people want a tiny bit more, rather than people on the terraces or around the city saying ‘you stayed too long’ and they’re trying to kick you out of the door.”

L.A. Galaxy will be his team for the next 18 months starting this summer. It will be the first time he steps into a different place. His old friend David Beckham also played for the same team and did not return to play in England. Gerrard is not planning on following David's steps.

Gerrard think it is the right time to try something new

“I have had a couple of brief conversations; I had a chat with Tom Werner and one recently with (manager) Brendan (Rodgers) about what I am thinking about, short-term and long-term,” Gerrard said.

Liverpool's manager said that the door will be open for his player to come back whenever he pleased. He also looked into the possibility of bringing Gerrard to play when he has a break with his new team.

"He's somebody I'd love to have working with me when he has finished playing. That opportunity for him to come back will be there for as long as I'm here," Rodgers mentioned.

Stevie means more a lot to more than just the club

Even if he decides to close his career as a player in the United States, the idea to stay there permanently is not in his plans. Gerrard is already taking coaching lessons that could help him be a part of Liverpool's coaching staff down the road.

“I don’t know at the moment what’s going to be there after America but I’ll certainly be coming back,” the 34-year-old player claimed.
