After signing an 18-month deal with L.A. Galaxy, Steven Gerrard will leave the Premier League and Jose Mourinho might be the one to stop him.

When it comes to wanting a player or denying interest in one, Chelsea’s coach Jose Mourinho is not afraid to speak up. The same happened after the 1-1 draw between Liverpool and Chelsea in the semi-final first leg of the Capital One Cup.

The Special One praised Liverpool’s captain, Steven Gerrard. By the end of the season, the 34-year-old midfielder will be leaving the only club he has played for throughout his whole career (1998-2015). Stevie G’s next stop will be the L.A. Galaxy in the Major League soccer.

During his time with The Reds, the former captain of England’s national team has scored 182 times in 698 games. Last night at Anfield, the post denied the captain from adding another goal to the count.

“I would love the Premier League to keep the best players and I believe he has the quality to play for more years,” Mourinho said after the game.

The former captain for England’s national team has been in the eyes of Mou since 2005 when he tried to sign him for Chelsea. Ten years later that desire has not vanished.

“Or perhaps to take him on a loan,” Mourinho joked to a BBC reporter who asked Chelsea’s coach about his intentions to sign Gerrard.

Is Mourinho setting up a plan with Liverpool’s coach to keep Gerrard in England?

There is such respect between the Special One and Stevie that the coach had told Chelsea’s fans not to boo the Liverpool idol during the match. The faithful obeyed and did not disrespect him.

There is a slight possibility that Gerrard stays in England. When Frank Lampard left Chelsea at the end of last season to join New York F.C, he ended up returning to the Premier League by joining Manchester City on a season-long loan deal.

Mou could be attempting to do something similar with Gerrard. He was seen talking with Brendan Rodgers in the Anfield corridor during last night’s game, just after he denied interest in Radamel Falcao and Ángel di María.
